View Full Version : wip: Old friends
buzzz3d 02-25-2004, 09:46 PM Ok, I thought it was time again for me to post something.
Enough bashing other peoples work, time to take some critism myself :)
This image is by far not finished, it started as a small doodle in Painter and I liked the initial brushstrokes that I decided to continue with it, added pixels to the canvas everywhere.
Points that definately need more work: the cloaked guys in the back (yep, that's what they are supposed to be, not mushrooms), his hand and sleeve, his thumb looks awkward etc. Practically the whole picture.
But, I'm kind of stuck with it, paintersblock, subject-wise en composition-wise, not sure if this could lead to something.
I could keep on adding detail to this picture but I decided to ask for some opinions. Is it worth to add some more work to it or should I just throw it in the unfinished folder on my harddrive?
Bring it on....

Updates below.
Cheers!

man, thats definitely worth adding more effort to, really love the color scheme, and your rendition on the owl is particularly beautiful. I was able to tell right away that they were cloaked figures in the background, they arent that bad. The only thing that i think needs lots of work is the hand. Maybe have it doing or holding something? And im not sure what, but you could use some kind of detail or something to fill all the negative space in the upper-right part of the picture.
what i would do (not that you care probaly : )) is cut out the owl and add more detail and make a composition out of that, because that part of this drawing is really nice.

ElKrullo & zionlocke : Thanks!
Nev4r: Thanks. I'll work on it some more during the weekend.
Lol about the owl, I did that part in less than 10 minutes, worked more than an hour on the face and still not too happy about that part.
The hand needs more work indeed, and I think I'm going to add a nice sky above it all to fill up the negative space.
I'm planning to do more owl-stuff in the future :)

i think if you really thinned him out and elongated him (is that a word?) it would create more of that grimmy, lengthy character that has been potraited in the past.
but i do like the over all look of it, if you emphasis on what hes really doing, in reaction of the drones, (eyes glaring, glows from them ect), may add to the mood.
(sorry for all these ideas if its anoying)
have you thought about creating alot more figures in the background, more like a crowd of dead?
i'll shutup now ;D

Thanks for the tips, I add more people to the background and added glows and other crap and now it's time to move on :)

Love it!! The owl is superb. only bug is the skull in the background clouds. Preferred it in the previous pic when it was more subtle.
Otherwise great stuff.

Thanks!
Funny you should mention the skull in the clouds.
I've gotten more comments about that, some people like it better as it is right now, some people like it more subdued like it was before. Same with the lighting.
I frankly have no opinion about it at the moment, I've been staring at this picture too long now :)
Cheers!

No worries.
I need someone to give me some advice on my pic. Any crits will help as I'm new to the tablet.

Man, this is starting to look great!
Only a few things...
I think the nose could be more straight... it looks a bit off perspective instead of just crooked.
The left thumb (his left) has a weird angle where it connects to the rest of the hand.
Also, I agree with cuppacam that the cloud skull could be more subtle.
Well... these are just small details that bugs me a bitt. All in all it looks very good!

Thanks for the comments.
Thought is was finished but couldn't resist..
Fixed the nose and thumb, I think it looks a bit better now.
Made the skull in the clouds a bit darker and made the paper of the letter a bit older.
Cheers
