A 'slightly' exaggerated gun for a slightly exaggerated superrobot:

And the innerworkings:

cc welcome :D

great work.. I know its exaggerated but I still think you need to scale up the handle. It seems way to small

But thats the only crit. Great work :bounce:

It supposed to be around 2 meters long and is wielded by a 2.5 m high robot ;)

The gun looks great, i like the design a lot, and its hard to crit the proportions without seeing the robot, but design wise is awesome.
Good stuff 3D_Mike, although i would like to see another bullet design that is as cool as the the gun.

very nice!

make the bullets at least twice as big as they are now - big robot with big gun needs to do BIG damage ;) - maybe you can apply a little version of "xxl" on each of them?

i also like the "thrashed" look of the gun...

what renderer so you use? nice dof!

Cool!
I want to see it too with the robot :bounce:

My only crit is about the 'circular damage' on the paint (around the 'XXL.100' text). It looks mostly like damage done by bullets, but it doesn't look too convincing to be that. I would expect some dents at those places.

awesome.. The gun is great. I would, of course, like to see a wireframe. The environment around the gun looks really good, very realistic. The modeling and concept are both great, but the shading is what I really like. Good job. The handle and trigger do look very small.. even if this is a huge gun, it would seem impossible for the robot, even if the robot it amazingly strong, to balance itself while trying to use this mamoth gun... and are the robots hands really small enough for that handle?

Needs to be a belt feed if it's going to have rotary barrels. Would eat all the ammo befor you could let go of the trigger. Diggin the cutawar render though!

i agree with barry on this one, but i dont understand how this gun works....is the bottom barrel like a shotgun or something? if so i say feed the ammo for that through the clips then have a belt of ammo hanging near the rear for the gatling gun

badass gun for a badass robot man, lets see some motion now!

Nice work. Have a few crits:

- I have to agree with the handle being to small comment. It looks like its made for a human hand. Scale it up or even redesign it.
- The bullets look old school compared to this futuristic gun, the brass colour doesnt really work and the black tip could be replaced with a glowing tip (armour pieircing uranium rounds, haha), purple, blue or green would go nicely, add some pezaz to them.
- Adding a carry strap would make the gun more pratical. A gun of that size would need some sort of extra support to keep it stable, hence a strap.
- Is the bottom barrel supposed to be a grenade launcher, flame thrower or something else? Is its a grenade launcher, adding some grenades on the floor would be nice. If its a flame thrower the end of the barrel would probably be a blackish colour with a faded spectrum towards the end of the burn. If you take a lighter to a pin you'll see what I mean, it doesnt just go black!
- I like the fading on the paint, but in some places its not convincing. Also the shot marks, presumably made from bullets, are pointless without dents in them. It looks like all bullet hit the gun a stopped dead, where as in *real life* the bullets would ricochet off the gun in different direction, leaving scratch in the direction they leave.

Anyway, I hope this helps in some way.

This is great - make it whitish and it kind of belongs in the Halo universe. I agree with the comment about the handle and that very gun barrel tip - where the paint is splattered - the smoothness of the surface is a bit disconcerting - you would think that there would be physical dents.

I'm curious to see this with the actual robot. I think I understand how the scale is to work.

An issue I have with it is that the textures could use a bit of work. Your diffuse or color map looks fine but it lacks the aid of bump, or displacement and it shows on the decals and the areas where the paint looks chipped, areas near the front end and the bullet holes especially. Perhaps a spec map with some scratches and such in the areas where paint has chipped off or scratched off to break up spec hits on those areas.

Also perhaps some more wear on the pump handle. It's seems a little underworn to me.

nice points idd :D
-Ill certainly fabricate a more interesting bullet design, badass robot, badass damage idd
-Dont know about the handle. It fits quiet well in the robots hand but Ill have to post a full pic to show you that off course.
-Heres a better picture of the bulletholes:
http://www.3d-mike.com/work/exa_gun_005.jpg
I couldnt get this nice dented look in the bigger renders cause the angle of the gun always reflected me a blank part of the env map :/
-The lower barrel is a supposed to be a grenade launcher. Might add some grenade rounds too, nice one :)
-Render used is Mental Ray. Didnt want to wait 4 hours to render the DOF with MR so I used the new Lens DOF filter with a Z-depth channel in Photoshop CS. Apart from some rough edges near the top of the gun it does the job imo.
-Motion coming up as soon as Im done with the worn-robot version!
-And the gun supposed to be way too big to handle even for the 2.5 m robot. Adding some support would be much too humiliating for a superhero of this kind :P

thnx for the comments yall!

Looks great, I think it will go great with the giant orange robot you modelled.

haha I LOVE your work, and this is no exception...truly impressive, and the inner workings, awesome....my only quibble however has already been mentioned...the texture along the top of the gun, where it says "XXL" there are what seem to be "bullet holes" there, revealing brighter metal....my thinking is that if bullets had hit there, they would only have left round holes if they had gone through the material; otherwise they would have dented/scratched the metal as they ricoched off....unless of course, that damage was done by some sort of plasma or laser weapon, and then I'd expect to see some soot/singeing around the edges...what do you think?

other than that, first rate as always!

Love the work! concept, modeling, texturing, all of it.
but like everyone else i do have some fire-arm related gripes

1 cocking lever needs to be forward, as it is the firing chamber is open. It should only be open when chambering rounds or expeling spent casing

2 bullets are smaller than muzzle, bullets need to be nearly the same diameter as the barrel for proper compression. Besides bigger bullets are cool as was said earlier.

3 and that belt feed idea was good too or an oversized clip

as i read my suggestions i think i have to much time on my hands
so i'll just compliment you once more and be on my way
good job

Exactly!

It is great model but I agree about the handler that is too small!

I like the environment too!

Great work man!

Awright, you guys are absolutely right about the fire-arm issues. I just put every cool bit I could find on that thing without really understanding the innerworkings of a gun. With the help of a weapon-understanding-friend I changed some parts so the gun might actually work :P

-As soem of you alreayd said the magazines are pretty useless with minigun barrels, theyd be emtpy in seconds. However I really want the magazines for an interesting gun design from a graphics point of view. Most important the gun has to be cool as f***. So the mags will now hold the grenades for the launcher.

-Ive mirrored the cocking lever. Its now set forward.

-Added a belt feed entrance right under the camera/lens-thingy to the side. Bullets will exit on the other side of the gun.

Im almost done with the worn robot version but am still not happy with the overall coloring. Once final Ill try and create a proper 'finished work' with the robot holding the gun asap :)
