View Full Version : Best Visual Effects Products?

So, what do people consider as the best products for doing effects like explosions, sparks, smoke, clouds, particle effects.

I saw lightwave's Hypervoxels a while back and that looked really impressive. Are there packages that are considered better and more versitile?

Any package is the best when there's a talented artist on the keyboard. :) Sometimes the best visual effects package is real life.

But to answer your question, I like the output of Houdinis particle systems and discreet FFIs particle systems. Lightwaves Hypervoxels look beautiful as well with the right artist, and I've seen some amazing stuff come out from Maya these days.

Our latest project is using the fluid dynamics particle systems of maya, and I have to say, it can do some really great effects, that can be difficult in other packages.

But as Aruna states, it is more about the artist behind the effects than the package sometimes.
