I am looking at Parhelia 256mb card from Matrox, as it has some great video ouput options, but I want to know what the 3D performance with C4D is like.

Have any of you used it, and is it any good?

Mash tested it and his (very negative) response was something like "I've never tried anything like that, i was shocked!". I guess you should go for something else.

I'd still consider it. can't vouch for the P series, but my matrox G450 is still the best card I ever had, I use an ATI 9000 pro now mainly because I was in serious need of the 3D boost, but the Dual head support and video is unmatched by nvida and ATI. Knowing how much video you do I'd consider it, its video output is much better too. The 3D on my G4D was a joke to be honest but that was the only thing that was a joke, and they did seriously improve it, but its definitely not as good as any ati or nvidia card in terms of 3D. it has the feature support, its just its speed thats disappointing.

isn't that the one that supports like 3 monitor...cos if it is...then i heard its 3d performance was nothing special...but it has a really nice useful feature set elsewhere, like the 3 monitor setup.

G4 Dual?

And yes, unless you specifically need 3 ouputs from a single card, avoid the parhelia.

Oh, and kai, ati and nvidia surpassed matrox dual screen features a long time ago. Matrox doesnt have anything going for them these days.

not likely, least thats not what I'd say when using the quad display at victoria school, Its features far outmatch those of my ATI card and OGL is supported on al four displays. And my ATI can't even do everything my G450 can in terms of dualdisplay functionality.

Some areas are definitley better like using games n dual display and such on the ATI nVidia card but thats about it.

As far as I know, Matrox cards are still the only ones that can convert any video material to anamorphic 16:9 signal when outputting to a TV.

That's why I have a Matrox G550 in my multimedia PC. I'm also thinking of upgrading to the Matrox P650, which is a slowed-down Parhelia with passive cooling and only dual-head. That would be good enough for my purposes, it even has 3.5x faster 3D than the G550 (even if it still is only half that of the Parhelia).

in terms of #D the parhelia is still way behind the othe cards though even with its considerable boost over previous matrox cards.

Matrox seem to have effectively given up on high-performance 3D, if I remember correctly from a Parhelia review - the Parhelia is not designed for 3D apps. They are concentrating on video applications and making up strange words.

I don't think they ever were as concerned with 3D its always an after thought feature, though I was really interested when the parhelia came out because they were pushing the 3d features so much, then the benchmarks came out and I sighed and bought myself an ATI.

It is a real pity really, cause Matrox have always had a cracking image quality, and the Parhelias 'pro' level output of video is very desirable. It ca ngive you an output from photoshop, and that is something I have been dying for for ages.

I think I might have to go for a 'video output' card to compliment my gfx card. Anyone know of any cards that can output the type of applications the Matrox Parhelia can?

On a aside, for me the PC with all its speed and agility still has not interfaced with video to a level of comfort that the Amiga did. I wish there was a card that could give me that 3D omph with pro level video output out of all my design applications. Excuse the 'old man nostalgia' bit there, but it has been bugging me for a while.....:)
