w00t!.... great job with this... Excellent work... I really felt connected to the characters emotionally durring a few spots... so right on.
Whooooo.....
Some great model you got there....
It looks really professional, lightning is excellent !
Good job!
I do however agree with Hypercube that the little guy looks a lot like Scrat from Ice Age.
Nevertheless, :D

Yop, Chris Wedge is our Master, and we copied his Scrat it's true, i assume it.
I thought the movie was fantastic, the only thing I would suggest as far as landing a big job, would be to bring down the violence to the road runnner and wiley coyote standards. Love the effects, and thought it was a great all around film, work on story line a little more for I got confused as to why the boy wanted to kill the squirrel so bad, (for looking at his food?) Story is big in the industry. Other then that, I would rate this film as one on my top favorites as far as short films. It had everything except the nude naked big breasted female on the side. Great job guys.

Very funny. Violence seemed a little over the top - but that didn't mean I didn't laugh.
Completely entertaining, well done.

I really enjoyed it though.
You should think about getting this on teardrops on tech tv.

This was very good!!!
I laughed all the way through it.
I really liked the end when he slapped him in the head--I laughed before they did :)
I also like the Chili Peppers for music...
Now that was great work
Must have taken forever to make. All the enviroments, characters, animations, render time, editing, rerender. Top notch stuff. Like Pixar but ultra cool violence. How many people were involved in the whole thing? I couldn't read the blurry credits, plus I couldn't stop watching the side video on the credits. Poll dancing that's great.
what kind of systems you do this on? What school? maya right?

Nice stuff!!
You guys must have worked a lot and hard at it.
I did find a few things disturbing:
1) The violence. I don't understand why people in general go for so much violence in an animation. If you are doing it for fun and as a personal project, then it's cool. But if you are looking for a job, I would stay away from that much violence. You might have awesome animation but the person responsible for hiring might think the violence is too much and will overlook your animation all together. You should always be carefull not to offend people, groups of people or whatever. You never know who might look at your animation. (ie. too much violence, sex, religion, racial issues, etc... why go there? you can still do awesome stuff and please everybody)
2) Scrat lookalike. As soon as I saw the squirel I thought of scrat. You guys did a great job, but it's too difficult (I'm not saying imposible, but very very difficult) to top the original Scrat. So personally I inmediatelly compared yours with Scrat and I thought, yeah, wow, great job, but it's not Scrat. So, what I'm saying is... be original.
3) Story. I'm either very keen on having an awesome story, or just doing short tests. Personally for getting a job as an animator I think short tests are perfect. Having a story will help in other areas (like being able to do a lot of different things, etc) Anyway, if you are going to have a story, make it an awesome story. Some meaning to it. Somebody mentioned that they didn't know why the two chars were fighting so much. I also wondered the same thing.. I figured it was because of the chicken, but it wasn't clear enough.
Anyway.. you guys did an awesome job.. I just wanted to mentioned something in general and your short provided the perfect sceneario for it

Well shortly, i would say, no i don't like politically corretc stuff that shouldn't arm anyone, our soucres are Otomo, Romero, Raimi, and we assume it and like it. Sorry for people who are not please, i'd say to them go watch a Disney
Scrat lookalike : yeah, we saw the first teaser a year ago and we all fell in love of it, and since Ice Age was planned to be realesed exactly 2 days before our own release, we found it funny to try to make it too, and a good exercise... it's obvious the original Scrat is a LOT better, but we learned much trying to make fur, and such animations...
The story ? What story?

Very nice work forst off.
Im impressed at the lighting and texturing...I think the animation was pretty good too...(I watched it about 5 hours ago:) )
Though I really think the violence was too much. You say go watch a disney...well fine fair comment. But what I thnk you guys needed to do was plan your shots with thw violence to have alittle more inpact IMO. you should have been a little more subtle.
Too mee I loks like the Violence is simply there...well cause You can :scream: Which is fine...but if you look at some of the more classic horror clicks youll see the ones that stand out rely more on the camera treatments than the acual "blood and Guts".
Over all I must say again...It was Beautiful. Keep it up:beer:

07-03-2002, 05:12 AM
I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially the violence. I thought it was a nice juxtaposition to the cartoony look of everything else. Regardless of who you might possibly offend you have to do what entertains you or you won't have the drive to finish the project (especially when dealing with the extremely fun task of learning all of the software and techniques).
Besides, you'll have plenty of time to create what everyone else wants (or what's socially "acceptable") as soon as you get a gig in the industry. So why not have fun with your studen work and be true to your artistic tastes? I have a hard time believing that someone wouldn't recognize these guys as talented just because they have an affection for gore.
Kanex, you said you started in Jan so you finished in 5-6 months? How many students again? I would be curious for a little more detailed info on the hours logged, people involved, and production process if you can delve out a bit more info.
Again, very nice work!

Bloody brilliant!! or should I say, Bloody and Brilliant
Just a great job all around, Looney Tunes for the digital age. Really a shame about the "Scrat" like creature though, just too much like him for comfort.
You guys should just form your own mini studio and rip up a few new episodes. I know I can't wait for more, more, MORE!!!

I particularly love the bit when they go through the elephant - HYSTERICAL!!!
Excellent work
I liked the violence. It's so over the top that you just can't take it seriously. The part where he gets his head flipped open was great! And the glass shards when he flies through the window, LOL.
I didn't miss the lack of story either.
I thought of Scrat at first too...a different character would have been better. The lighting and modelling was ace. The facial animation was great too, but I think the body moves were a bit off some times. Often there was no anticipation in the moves and the timing wasn't always right.
Overall great though, it's already made it's rounds at work :D
By the way, could you make the movie downloadable instead of playing on-site? It always crashed IE after a minute or so. I had to go into the source code to get the direct link to the movie and download it...

We used Max to do this, and only max (no renderer)...
It took us 6 months, as we started late January.

this is great work
but not best student work ive seen
theres guy from my country have done 2 4 mins movie allrdy
and he only now in hes last year of school and he did it alone! very amazing
i got a question :
theres a part of the movie when he is in the car
part of hes body comes out of the frame ,HOW did you do that??
when theres close up on the face

am i right?...u said the renderer is max' default scanline?!?! :surprised
wow nice lighting.
& what did you mean by "stealing your work?" how could anybody
steal your work by watching the hires (640x...) movie?!
i want the hires RIGHT NOW!!! (i want to record it on betaCAM
& send it to annecy! :) hahaha
Wiz...it's very easy to do such a thing!!!!
just composite the character rendered separatly(with alpha) for example at 768*576 on your 16/9 picture at 768*432...and the character will get out...
i did that with a cartoon plane, last year I think...
Funny effect and hommage to Tex Avery of course !!!
by the way do you really think quality = lenght ?!?!?

Great job guys!! I worked on "Ice Age" and would have loved to have seen Sid or Manny lose half their heads like the guy in your short!!
The end where the two characters start laughing is my favorite part!! I also like the fly through of the elephant and the MIR shooting the beams at them. The story is as good as it needs to be (for me). How much story went into the Road Runner/Coyote shorts?
You guys definitely have your $h!T together!!
