Hi all,

Latest article and CGFilm on CGNetworks is 'On the Sunny Side of the Street' by the boys at the Soulcage Department in Germany.

On the Sunny Side of the Street is a highly original and wickedly funny short film by students at the Bremen Academy of Arts in Germany. These students went on to form their own studio called ‘The Soulcage Department’. Nominated for Best Short Film in the 3D Awards last year and recipient of honorary mentions from the ADC (Art Directors Club) Germany, Sunny Side is now just one of a string of skillful and imaginative animations by Soulcage.

Crimeny! Talent abounds these days in the Computer Graphics industry. I dont know why, but the meat tenderizing part just made me crack up! These are the same guys who did "I'm Walking," right? Good for them. Very good stuff from some very talented people.

Very inspirational! Watching stuff like this always makes me either:

A) Want to work my brains out all day and night on my current project

or

B) Curl up in a corner and cry!

:D

The soulcage department is always making such awesome stuff. They (unknowingly or not) work to dispel the myths that seem to abound about Hash animation:master. I see A:M as becoming more and more prominA:M (http://www.hash.com) will become more and more prominent in the next few years, with the awesome animations being created and the new hair system. But I digress. Great job, This short always makes me crack up. Nice article too.

What a fantastic short, the animation was brill. I love those old school Laurel and Hardie comedies, when they're oblivious to the damage they're doing!:applause:

Nice to hear that! Bremen is not far away from where I live... maybe I should peek at that university.

Excellent film, the ending imho didn't fit the overall style though, but that's just my opinion, felt a bit harsh.

Overall it's really great.

I agree the ending was a bit harsh, but it didn't bother me too much.

I think it would have been cute if the sandwich fell into the big guys hands at the end. Maybe a bit obvious, but I think it would have fit the style.

Maybe..., but maybe I should tell you that we weren't educated in animation at all. The HfK is a traditional grafik design school. We used to study mostly illustration there and started animation cause of personal interest.

man that was wonderful!! great characters, great animation, and i loved the style. must say that the black and white was adding a lot to the movie.

i was just wondering, i would like to download the movie to my computer, is it possible? can someone perhaps give me a link?

This is a classic animation. Really great demonstration of storytelling and animating skill. And I love the two different views! Totally unexpected.

There is SOMETHING about either my IE settings or my internet connection that does not allow me to watch these CGtalk-specials. I'm promted to enter my nick and password, does so, get a confirmation "welcome" etc, then pops right back to the login page. At home it works fine, but not here at the office. What could possibly be the reason for this? Anyone? :hmm:

This is truely fantastic! i has the pleasure of 1st seeing it at the Animex festival over here in Middlesbrough, UK and it totally blew everyone away. awesome animation (and yes, the rotoscoping is a hot topic at the mo, but it really "makes" the animation).

Great compositing and VFX and soundtrack too.

Great work!

When watching it though, the idea of using a simulated fire, kinda like the old ways of special effects, like paper strips with a fan, from the BBQ, comes to mind.
