A face tut, not a head tut, but a better start you won't find.

Hello there,welcome to the blender(and wings) forums...
Depending on your previous artistic background,you may reconsider using a human as subject right away(assuming this is all new to you).
IMO a better learning would be in making exagerated/monstruous figures to get a hang of organic modeling and how edgeloops and heavy tweaking of the shapes and forms will help you get there.
If you're totally new to 3D,patience is more than a vertue and according you first get a solid understanding of the basics and good reading materials you may progress faster as you may not develop bad habits...Like I did.
This forum below can be quite an inspiration and only by "reading" it for a few weeks,I upgraded from crap to craft ;)
Do not miss this one too;
A few more things;
Don't follow ALL the so-called "modeling rules"(as you may sometimes see in tutorials),they may serve as a good guidelines,but doing it YOUR way is what I personally think one should aim for...
Secondly,Practice over and over again because,no matter how many awesome tutorials make you achieve awesome stuff,nothing is comparable as to jumping into the 3D viewport and start shaping things.
Lastly don't be a slave to reference images,sure they ARE an excellent "guideline"...But one should be able to model in the 3D viewport while just keeping an eye on the orthographic.
