why are these edges border edges?? the vertices are all weld together, can I convert them to "normal" edges?

Have a look if there are any flipped normals in there. Or any polys inside of your model. I assume you've already tried to weld the verts at the edges?

A few things to try:

- Try both Merge Vertices and Merge Multiple Edges, but make sure the distance or threshold settings are something useful, like 0.01, instead of the default zero.

- Do a Polygon -> Cleanup, with Select and Cleanup as the operation, and Nonmanifold Geometry checked. Try checking all four Remove Geometry options (though the zero map area one sometimes crashes my machine...) and the default tolerance settings should be okay.

- You might have to try the merge operations again after the Cleanup.

- And as Wiro suggested check your normals are all the same way, and there are no multiple faces in the same place.

- Er, as a last resort you could delete the problem faces one by one and use Append to Poly to fill the holes in again...

Let us know if any of this works or not.

the polygon cleanup with nonmanifold which waboflex suggested has worked :)
