Hey guys I need some help with my Wacom tablet. Got it a couple of days ago, and have loaded the drivers on to my computer (Windows 98). The thing is it dosn't work, I messed around for a few hours last night trying to figure out what the problem was with my limited amount of computer knowlege. I went trough all the tech help and online manual etc and couldn't find anything that I could see as a problem.

What I finaly put it down to is that the little green LED isn't on so I'm gessing no power is getting to the tablet, but i don't understand it, it has no power cable or anying, I can't find a power button, and I have it connected to the USB port like the little set up book says.

Yeah so... Wacom Intuos 2, Windows 98, USB tablet, all the system reqyirements are met, I think the problem is no power getting to the Tablet but I might be wrong... Any I ideas on how to make it work?

Cheers Jack

Are you using the second edition of Windows 98 ? as I think there was a problem with the original release of 98 and wacoms.

USB devices - I had a printer, a scanner, and one of thoughs multi USB port things installed but I formated my computer yesterday before I put the tablet on. So at the moment I only have the tablet installed on my USB ports.

And Windows doesn't detect anything if you change USB ports ?

If not check that all USB ports are enabled in the bios. When you plug your tablet in the LED should turn red until the driver is installed and its running.

The only other thing I can think of is the tablet is faulty.

Sorry.

Hmm, I think you need a "powered" usb port, I think it says so in the system requirements. All I know is that when we plugged our Graphire3 into the built in usb port of our old compaq presario, it didn't work, no light or anything. So we went and bought a pci usb adaptor ($20) for it and that did the trick. So maybe if your comp is a little vintage it doesn't have powered usb ports? Or maybe I'm talking out of my ass and there is no such thing as a "powered" or "unpowered" usb port, honestly I'm not sure.

First do as rubberduck suggested and check the Bios USB settings are correct. Then once windows is booted up check your USB ports show up in Device manager as being installed and working correctly. If not then you need to install the drivers for them.
After formatting an old Win98 machine I ran into conflicts with the USB ports and whilst browsing the web I found a usb help site...

www.usbman.com/

Might be of some use to you?

Thanks guys I'll check those ponits out when I get back.

I couldn't find bios anywhere so I went to help and thru that I found System Devices and then USB ports and apparently they are both running fine, and the "unknown divice" (Wacom tablet) in port 1 is drawing 140 power. Then I ran a USB scan which I think was on the WACOM CD and it said the USB ports were running properly aswell.

I'll go to an electronics store today and see if one of the dudes there can tell me weather a PCI USB adaptor will do any good.

Thanks for the site Jbw I'm looking at it now, seems like it could be some help also.

If none of this pans out I'll take it over to my old mans place and plug it into his lap top (Windows XP) and see if it works there if not I'll send it back.

Cheers Gyus
