I would like to select all the objects in a scene that have the same material, how can I? Is it possible? Or I have to wait for XL8 (hoping it has this kind of features)?

Group all the objects (G) then add the material to the Null. :)

I don't want to give the same material to a group of objects, I wanna select all the objects that have the same material (for example to hide them all!)

Hmmm I am still not exactly sure what you are wanting myself, but you can hide anything you want form the render using render tags,or even just turn of their visibility by double clicking the little dot until it turns red to the right of the object, but I am assuming here that you want an automatic selection of all objects that have the same mat, without manually having to climb through nulls etc,so one click and all mats you select are selected at once....is this what you want?

there is a plugin that can locate objects by the material, but as for multiple selecting it is not possible, so overall your question is not possible in 7

Ya I didnt think it would be :)

It would be a really time consumng pain in the butt, but what if you had like one window frame and the rest were all instances of the frame, then change one and they all change......dont know if this possible in your scene or not though :hmm:

I don't model my buildings in XL, i need a CAD to model buildings... And also if I modeled in XL the building there would be not only 1 kind of window

thats what i'm doing when working with cad stuff (vectorworks):
export different materials as layers wich you can group under a null in c4d to quickly assign materials.

but as mentioned before, a multiple selection feature in c4d incl. filtering list would be welcome
