View Full Version : Compositing Maya's Paint Effects
roger3d 02-23-2004, 12:31 PM I rendered some Paint Effects strokes just to test a compositing.
When I imported the image in Combustion, it changes the color, probably due to the alpha channel.
I d'like to have the same colors I have in the render view...
How can I overcome this problem?
Anyone experienced the same problem?
Any help is very appreciated!

Hello,
I tried the pre multiply option, but it doesn't work.
It changes the color a little bit, but still it's not like the original image I see in Maya's render view.
Please, see this thread:

Duncan has a solution for it, but here is another question:
How to include this "math" in Combustion?
Sorry, as you can see, I'm new to compositing.
So, if someone could point small explanation on how to do it im Combustion, I'll be very thankfull.
PS. I already tried the online docs but I'm still lost...

You could try something like this (although you may need to play around with transfer modes to get what you want, it depends on how Maya renders & i dont have Maya)
Import your x2 footages, the rendered footage & the PFX footage (PFX Footage on top)
set the PFX footage transfer mode to 'add'
Apply a Compound RGB arithmatic operator to the rendered layer
- set all channels to 'alpha' for input
- use the PFX layer as the input layer
- for the operator bit try changing the modes & see what works best, I'm thinking either subtract or difference might work...
