View Full Version : Animation [Demo Reel]
Game-boi 02-22-2004, 11:46 AM Hey everyone! Here's my latest demo reel. I've tried to keep it short. I've though of putting other clips on the end, but think that it may go a little too long. Tell me what you think!

You have created some nice hand animated characters there, their body movements and characteristics are effective although, it is just a couple of clips strung together rather than a demo reel. There are a lot of very good demo reels around here that are effectively an advert for peoples skills and as such need good effective presentation and marketing style. You certainly have the skills looking at this short, it just needs better presentation I think.
Good luck

You definitely need more stuff on there. That was the shortest demo reel I've ever seen. The work you do have in there is pretty good though. I saw the sneak animation when it was in the work in progress section, and it's great. The lip synch needs some work. There's too much twinning going on and no shoulder movement. Oh, and I love the music. What song is that?

Thanks for the comments, Frank and David!
The mantra in making the demo reel and the exercises was that "simple is better". I wanted to do something under a minute, with simple characters and just show movement.
Frank, as far as needing better presentation, what exactly would you recommend? Are we talking motion graphics elements in place of the white text or giving the animations more of a background? I'm not exactly following you on that.
David (aka neonoodle), I'm going to spend a few more hours really pushing the boundaries of acting/lip sync. Where are the twinning issues you mentioned? The music is from one of the Lupin III soundtrack CDs I have. Please don't ask me what the exact title is. I don't know Japanese.
As far as adding more clips onto the reel, would another animation exercise or clips from other animated shorts I've done be a better fit? (see www.game-boi.com/ to see the shorts)
Thanks for giving me encouraging words! :)
