View Full Version : Heli-rotor with controller

Hi, two weeks ago I modeled a simple helicopter which I now want to animate in a fly-scene, but i have problems with the control of the the two rotors (the main- and the tailrotor). They're linked to the mainbody and if I animate them using only the autokey-button and then rotating them around one axis doesn't really work properly, because they seam to speed up at the begining and slow down at the end, and that's what I don't want. I wonder if there's no solution to let them rotate constantly around the axis at the same speed. Is it possible to do this with a controller, and if, which controller should I use? A perfect controller would let me control the spinning speed of the rotors between frame x and y.
If there don't exist such a controller, maybe someone could write one or give me a hint how to write this sort of controller.

I hope anyone is able to help me.
thx,
Leon

first off, the speed up and slow down is max's default ease-out and ease-in to keys and you can change that in the curve editor, by right clicking on the rotor keys and changing the interpolation type there.

another option is to rotate your rotor 360 degrees and then, in the curve editor, set it's out-of-range type. this should let it just continue to rotate forever without you having to key it any more, although you may still need to mess with the key interpolation

Hey cool that works very well, thanks a lot.
The only thing you need to do is make the curve in the trackview linear, and then you just need to set it's out-of-range type to loop, thats all.
And my rotor spins nostop :)
