View Full Version : Proxy model for animation speed?
thedaemon 02-20-2004, 08:52 PM well, I was wondering if its is possible/if people do this. Ok, when I rig a character, and try to animate him, say he's 5k polys, he (it ;P ) animates slow. And in any other app I have used he animates fast (maya). I was wonder basically what ways I can go about speeding up interaction with my rig, while still showing my basic mesh.

This seems to be coming up a lot lately. The method I use is to hack up a copy of my mesh into pieces and parent them to the skeleton. There's no skinning involved, so the interaction is very quick but you have to live with it not being as pretty as the skinned mesh. You still get a good idea of the volume of the character, though. I use a custom Maxscript for swapping the hi-res with the lo-res for rendering, but if you're using the Character node it has a built-in facility for managing hi-res and lo-res swapping.

Thanks for the quick reply! You must be sitting at work like me right now :applause: I am glad you replied actually, for some reason, you seem to know almost all of my questions.. er answers... lol anyways, thanks.
ps do you know of any maxscript code that works with interactive IK, in a way that it set stopping points on and off?? I have racked my brain on this one!
