Hello pll,
I am a new memeber of this site, but i've been visiting for Months.
I am a fan of maya like u guys, and i am doing mike thomson's car tut with the free version of maya. I am sure everyone is familiar with the tut i'm talking about, but just in case, here it is:

http://homepage.mac.com/mikethomson/Tutorial/tutorial.html

I have been trying to figure everything out by teaching myself, tuts and all but, i have one step that always bugs me.

this is the 86th and 87th step on the list view of the tut. it has to do with blend, trim and fillet. I finish the car i make, but it looks rather dull without the details that these two steps bring to the mix.

i really hope i can get some help from u guys as a "welcome " to the family. ;)

Thanks guys
Xyllon

lot's of ppl visiting this site simply don't have the time ! :hmm:

ok thanks for your "help" guys. i was looking for help along the lines of "he used circ fillet on the settings of blah blah blah, he selected the 2 surfaces and used the blah tool" and u know just a little mini tut on those 2 or 3 steps and stuff like that. But thanks for your help. i'll just keep working on it, and hopefully, i'll post a complete model someday.

Gracias. :)

Ok chill out people. Guy just wants some help. The site was down for a bit, but I looked through it now. I'll try and help you out.

Alright on step 85 he makes a curve of the headlight profile and extrudes that. You'll see he's going use it to cut out the hole in the fender for the light. This extruded curve will be one of the surfaces you'll select for the fillet and trim.

In step 86 you'll see he duplicates the fender. He'll need the duplicate for the next step. Ok now you need to select the extruded curve and the fender...then do a circular fillet..Edit Nurbs>>Surface Fillet>>Circular Fillet. I didn't model the car, and he doesn't mention any settings so I don't know the exact settings. I know in order to do the trim part you'll have t have curve on surface checked in the Fillet options...other than that you'll play with the settings till you figure it out.
Next he does the trim to cut out the headlight. Edit Nurbs>>Trim Tool. Click on the area you want to keep(the fender) and press enter and htat should cut out the headlight area.

Step 87 you'll unhide the duplicate fender you made in step 85. You perform the same edits as last step...Fillet and trim. Except this time you trim away the fender and keep the headlight piece.

Well thats as good as I can explain it. For any help with the specific tools and there options, Pres F1, and read the docs pertaining to theose tools and operations.

anyway hope that helps.
