View Full Version : Character: Metal Dragon
SangHanArt 02-20-2004, 02:03 PM I did this model based on my sketch. I haven't thought of the body yet but I might do that later. Please give me some helpful crits. Thanks.

Wow, this one has a great potential. I like how you structured your dragon's face. Hope to see further progress! :)

Careful with the Polycount!
The head looks like at least 300.000 Faces.
I you continue like this, and keep to this great detail-level, you might end up with 2-3 Million Faces for the whole body ;o)
Great work so far. IŽd prefer a better eye though, he canŽt see anything...

It has a lot of stuff on the head.
I think you should make more of the body to make a good decision on the head.

substrauss: Jason Park: Thanks, your comments make me work harder.
Banshee: I will make design a better eye so its more functionable. It will probably be a separate object with ball and socket joint. Maybe like a camera lens for focus. I love your scorpion by the way. Love the details.
Jeroen: The most important thing is that everything works and fits together. I'll make sure everything is consistent. On to the body for now.

I started working on the torso. The arms are just place holders for proportion. I'll start working on those next. I thought it would be cool to have these huge fans on his chest, like a Harrier jet to help with lift when he flies. I'll add some grates to make them more booster-like.

Small update. I worked on the arms a bit.

I worked on the thighs and paws. I still need to work on the wings to make them more mechanical, the hips, stomach, tail and lower back legs.

very interesting design
althogh wings need more tech look
generally it looks great
i agree with the eyes should be seperate objects
hatches would be good instead of eyelids
for a more tech-organic look the things on the neck are very good
i think you could do same thing for the spine too

Getting closer to finishing the model. I have to figure out how the wings connect to the shoulders. I'll probably add some geometry to the stomach and tail as well.

Lookin real nice, I like the idea. The only suggestion I can think of is maybe make the wingspan a bit larger. It looks kind of puny to allow a metal(heavy?) dragon to fly. Just a suggestion though, don't have to listen to me, I suck.

eMysfit: Thanks for your reply. I should make the wing span bigger. When you look at something for a long time, you tend to miss the obvious. He would have a difficult time flying huh? Unless he flaps really fast like a fly, which would look silly.

One thing you could maybe do is just put extensions on each tip, and make it where they can bend like an arm. Then you wouldn't have to actually remodel anything. And he would be a little more flexible.
Just out of curiousity, are you gonna rig him up for animation and stuff, cause that would be pretty cool. Or just set him up in a still shot?

It looks great, and my only comment is: Stick it in a small room with an Aibo and see which one survives;)

bravo great modelling but it seems more like a camel(the head):)

eMysfit: Im not going to rig or animate him cause I still dont feel comfortable in those areas. I think I know what your talking about, with the wing extensions. Real wings are like finger bones right? Segmented for flexibility. I'll take it into consideration.
superbeexotc: I say the Aibo wins. My bot just sits there.
tsunami4you: It does look like a camel, now that you mention it. My friend said it looked like a horse.

MajinPunisher - Thanks and I'll try to post some soon, when I have more time.
dur23 - Thanks. I have always wanted to do rusted metal and this was a great opportunity.
plasmaworX - Thanks for the kind words.

Really good work!
I like those blue-renders on page one!
If I was you Í wouldnŽt give him rusted textures, IŽd prefer some nice looking, brushed metal materials with slight scratches, oil and some dust.
Great Work!
