am i the first???
damn, well ok! that was awesome! I cant believe those ships and the light sabers and bots, xwings, space battle, holy shit. I liked it.

on a side note, the acting might;ve been a lil flawed :p

but nonetheless, the graphics put into it was nothing less than professional, coming from a 'consumer' view-point.

I particularly loved the ship with wings which curve inward toward each other, holy shit that was sweet.

thanks for thaT!

Some people have either way too much time or too much talent for their own good. In this case I think it's a combination.

That trailer was all kinds of sweet. I am now officially looking forward to this film, I think it will be better than Uncle Lucas's latest endeavors!

Keep it up, you guys are doing awesome...

I think this oughta get plugged.

Yeah I agree it was done very professionally, some of the shorts could have fooled me. :)

The first thing I was wondering though, do you have permission from Lucasarts to work on a non profit star wars film? While most short fan films involving the star wars universe are probably tolorated, I'd be a bit sceptical about a feature film of this quality.

thx for all the kind words, its nice to hear. kinda when all the hard work starts to pay off in interest in our little project.

Its generally accepted, I heard that george browses the TheForce.net and checks them out.

Also non-profit is non-profit, were all in it with no pay. I'll personally vouch for that. +insert sound here+
(sound of no pennies rubbing together)

And I really cant go into detail but lets say that the interest and praise from certain sources kinda negates that fear. wink wink.

Its been great fun and we have a few months left for the CG guys, then its off to the audio guys. The final will be pretty grand. stay tuned.

Very good job you guys r doin!
Must be a hell of an endeavour to pull!

Really the only thing that didn't convinced me too much was the acting (well most of it anyways), i'm sorry to say.
But the CG is absolutely great, and the VFX is up to the best i've seen.
Congratulations. This is definitely due to be plugged in the front page. I mean this is like the sum of all one can expect to achieve in CG work! And, to say this is never too much, even more when u guys are not in it for the profit.
Respect.

Love the effects! I actually think the lightsabers might look better than those by ILM.

You might enjoy these then! :)

The Cougar - the smuggler hero ship (http://www.kromekat.nildram.co.uk/stuff/full-page.jpg)

And another of the Cougar (http://www.kromekat.nildram.co.uk/stuff/cougargrey.jpg)

The Exigence - Imperial carrier ship (http://www.kromekat.nildram.co.uk/stuff/Exigence.jpg)

An older render from earlier in the Exigence development, but the form is more evident! (http://www.kromekat.nildram.co.uk/stuff/Exigence_old.jpg)

Nice FX...but it looks like a cross between Star Wars and Days of Our Lives (soap opera). What really makes if feel that way is the obvious video quality vs film and the sappy acting. Good job for an amatuer and non-profit flick.

LOL .. The Viper was a great easter egg .. Our CG guy (Zafer Mustafa) has a great sense of humor.. You can see the viper in the alley scene towards the beginning of the trailer (you have to look close).. it's about having some fun too :)

For a non-profit organization that is most impressive!! Thats a good example on how to take a (almost free) production and almost match productions that cost 50+million to make.

Clockwork
02-21-2004, 09:49 PM
I'm very impressed with the cg, and some of the live action integration looks a spot on, I think the only flaw would be the acting followed closely by the plot... or at least elements of it, was the writer a feminist? When I picture Star Wars I don't picture women Jedi running around like they own the place... but it's too early to judge and as far as the CG goes, fantastic, loved the rope grappling effect by the Storm Trooper.

Pent

I'm not a big fan of the acting and the shots in it, from the trailer.

sorry its just weird, maybe post production can fix some.

like the lightsabre fight, looks like it was shot on a homevideo camera and then edited to substitute broomsticks for lightsabres, thats the vibe I got off it at least, the cg is nice though.

and I agree with the above poster about it feeling like days of our lives, the acting seems artificial -_-
its like that chick tries too hard to make her voice sound *evil*

All you people out there that are accusing these guys of bad acting. I have one question for you. Is the acting in the prequels (phantom menace and attack of the clones) any better?

Especially TPM. That said I think these guys are PERFECTLY on par with the real movies. Poor acting + superb special effects.:applause:

yeah isnt it a starwars tradition???

But seriously im helping on the CG project, so the acting I
have no stake in either way. And I just can't agree with the
blanket 'bad acting' comments.

Anyway wait for the final!!!:)

Just so you know, I personally didn't think the acting was that bad. In fact, some of the acting I thought was supurb.

Thats cool we appreciate all replies, and that wasnt directed at you directly, just a few of the past replies, I was commenting on, to follow your thought about the starwars movies.

Just throwing in my 2 cents, because in alotta of ways seeing the trailer was new to me too, specially in final form, with SFX and music.

Thx again.

Big thing is, its a very, very, very small budget, for the scope of the movie.

"A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link."

I think that is a profound statement, and a good way to put it.

I agree with you, and will look to find some way to strengthen that weak link.. we can only do so much as the filming is done, and can not afford to re-shoot, and god what a nightmare to coordinate, and well, we are not hollywood or Lucas Films (yet) ;)

but I like your weak link comment ... good one

I really dont like the acting, its way too much "mommy mommy look at me, I am in Star Wars-land" or atleast something un-natural over it. Its rather strange how most people stop talking normally once they come infront of a camera. Even if it is supposed to be acting, it shouldnt sound like it. ( I would not be able to do any better myself though :) propably much worse )

The space scenes are nice, but what I really like are the ground scenes where AT-ST's walk around among people. Very nice!

First, I think this is a really cool project! Next, I have to say that the acting is not as bad as certain people said, but I need to confirm the fact that fighting scene between those 2 girls is too slow... too fake. People have to remember that it's an amateur movie so the casting can't be perfect... On the whole, the major part of CG is great...

Keep working! Good luck!

WOW! Im very very impressed with this!
I am starting production on a short film (It isnt set in the SW universe, but the people whome have seen the concept art, and read the script say that the SW 'feel' is undeniably there...I think that years and years of SW has influenced my artistic direction!), and know the hardships that come along with it!

Getting this far is quite an accomplishment! I hope for the best!

Also-earlier somebody said that LUCASFILM may have a problem with fan films, but (as you stated) George Lucas frequenly browses TFN and looks at the fan films. Aparently, TROOPS is one of his favorites. :)

Best of luck to you guys!

Guys we are still looking to add further CG talent to our team. We are very intersted in getting a few more Max users. We have some large tasks still to complete for the film, and could use the help. Anyone interested? You can check out a sample of the type of shots we are doing here: http://www.panicstruckpro.com/4music/Assy_Corellia.mov

This shot was all done by one artist in Max.

If interested email me at: panic@panicstruckpro.com
