Hi everybody, this is my first scene in 3Dsmax to share with you... And I also would like to know how to improve my scene using lighting. Here is two pieces without texture and with.

this is a great first attempt. i wouldn't even call it attempt, but your first piece of art.
looks like something i would see in UT2004. the colors are great and you have nice textures already. i would add some "effects" in the "generator thingy" to add to the scene. i would add some more area light to help bring the color of the textures out. like, right where the target lights are hitting the ceiling, you can see some texture work, it would be nice to see that every where [lightly, of course]. also some lights to help bring out the detail on the generator, but not to much.

in the future, it'd probably be a good idea to credit the concept artist (Feng Zhu in this case) just to be safe - sometimes people freak out about stuff liek that. That said, excellent job of translating it into 3d! nice work!

You have an eagle eye Adam! The initial idea of this piece is base on Feng zhu's concept art. I have been trying to make excellent sketch like Feng zhu... However, I don't have an industrial design background, so this is some how difficult.
Here is a sketch that i have produce base on Feng zhu's technic.
