View Full Version : Hi, I'm new here and I want to show you something
HippieKiller 07-01-2002, 04:33 PM This is my first post here on cgtalk.com and I'll start with showing some things I made. I make models and renderings pure for the fun of it. I'm a student industrial design and that's how I came in tough with 3d modelling and rendering using Rhinoceros and maya. Now I create a 3D rendering of almost all my designs and I'm still playing with the materials and lighting to get better and better images.
Any remarks on my skills? I can't show you a lot because of the 50 kb limit. I'm building a website on wghich I'll be able to show a lot more of my work.

hurm rhinocerous uses nurbs, right? nice glasswork. the robot looks a little primitive, as do the industrial pieces. good job though, keep it up!

Rhinoceros indeed. Renderings done in flamingo. The industrial pieces look primitive for a reason though. It's a mobile phone for elderly people that can't understand the common mobile phone. The robot is just simple becuase I used it to test some materials in combination with radiosity. This robot is supposed to be made of black shiny stone and it worked fine.

i like it all, very clean look to everything and i WANT A MOBILE PHONE LIKE THAT ONE !! old school style
Hey
Welcome to this forum ! Always nice to see new industrial products find there way into the various computer programs :p
Especially if there's concept art involved.
I think I like the grey robot (your avatar) better, than the black one you posted. Would like to seen him walking around using one of your concept designs. (?)
Anyways,
I already like what I've seen so far, so keep updating.

The shape of the black robot is undefined because of the lighting and material. Try using a Fresnel/falloff map to better define the surfaces (kind of like a shiny new car).

I've already used a falloff map (in flamingo that's called a angular blend). At a bigger resolution it looks far better.

Very nice renders! I think that it all looks good.
The robot needs a lighter material. It's detail is simply not showing up.
Nice designs, and I have to disagree about them looking primitive. I think the robot looks good.
If the design is simple, it does not mean it is not good. In industrial design, the K.I.S.S. principle applies.
I really like it, and I would encourage you to continue with these rendering tests of your designs.

Cool stuff! Crisp'n'clean.
I have no problem seeing the details on the black v. of the robot, and my monitor is calibrated properly.. It looks exactly like a shiny black plastic or painted metal toy, IMO.

the bottom render of the robot looks fine, really good. But the top one still doesn't catch my eye, sorry.

Cool works, good modelling!

I've also rendered the robot using radiosity. Then the robot looks far more 3d. But with a total black object the effect of radiosity doesn't do the rendering any good because you can't see the shade. I made this model just to test and play around with different kinds of materials. I'll attach a link to a robot rendered with radiosity so you can see the effect.

Hey! It's the IRON MIGIT. Great model. I just saw the IRON GIANT on Cartoon Network twice because it's a 24hour marathon, and I've never seen the movie, and I just liked it very much. Is that where you got the idea from? Anyway, great model. Keep up the great work.:bounce:
