i wonder how mutch time i'm saving using xref files to render all the scene the project is not finishing and i'm already rendering something like 1397075 faces in 2 minutes ... but i dont know if the xref files are helping me for this..

Xrefs are just useful for housekeeping, or working on a team project, they are simply composite scenes, that way you can work on X object, while your team member works on Y object, and the next time you open your scene you see the new version of the Y object, right in the correct place.
It won't help speed up your rendering times, it'll just keep things tidy... It'll speed things up in your viewport if you use proxy objects so they are useful for that, but they wont help your final rendering speed...
Check out V3 - P358 of the max manual...

If your looking to speed up rendering times your better off splitting your scenes into seperate pieces and render them individually then join them together with video post at the end.
When I say seperate pieces, for instance,
background (sky)
middle objects (buildings, tree's, fog effects, whatever)
main object (character)
I've done this once a long time ago. I think you have to render to individual files (TIFF) something with an alpha channel

Wouldn't it take the same amount of time if not longer to render out different pieces and then compile them in post? WTF? JUst render the damn scene and go watch some TV, or play a video game or somethin, take a nap I dunno.

Its pretty useful to have two or more computers nearby, that way you can render on one, and continue your work on the other.. (Or something)

Actually most of the proyects in the studio in wich I work, are done with different layers, and itīs VERY usefull to make it this way, imagine that your client changes his mind about the background and you rendered only one layer with everithing on it (raytrace materials, volumetric lights, and raytrace shadows) imagine the render times.....
BUT if you render in layer and then compose, you just change the background map, or what ever the client wanted and you just replace the old layer with the new one in post and there you have it :applause: fast and easy
