Hiya, this is my first serious project in 3d, using 3dmax, and is my final project for my 3d course.

I've gone for the face mask to save time on animation, even though much of her face is done underneath. I hope that will make for nice deformations on the cloth when a modifier is applied to it.

Known issues: -hands too big?
-bow on her back looks like a plastic toy for now
-no eye brows as yet
-hair strips too evenly placed

I've started on skinning and animating which is turning out to be quite a chore.

Looks nice.
Hands aren't too big as such, but they are too wide and the thumbs are too short.

Not much else I can crit, except to tell you to upload some wires and for the love of pete don't compress the crap out of future uploads. That many jpeg artifacts makes it hard to look at anything long enough to crit it.

Right, I've been fixing the hands size, but something was still amiss, I think you may have nailed it. :)

I replaced the images with less compressed ones, and included some wireframes.
I'm seeing now while I skin and animate the benifits of making a model all one piece of geometry, while I have layers of clothing. Is that considered the best way to model a hi-poly model that is intended for animation?

I'll post a small .avi of her walkcycle when its done. At the moment the rig is causing all sort of tiny twitchs I cant explain. :)

Did a little bit of work on the environment that this model is going to be a part of. She will probably end up standing where the box is as the sun goes down.

Any comments and critiques welcome.

I can't really tell, but I don't see any muscles on the arms and on her abdomen. This would help body detail. Looking good.

Great look so far... I'd also suggest adding detail to the stomach area and the arms. The lighting, while making it a little harder to crit, gives it the "drow" feel. Good work!

Thanks for the comments, I did some tweaking around her stomach and arms, most of which get lost in the animating it seems.
I'm deciding if her tummy and arms require more refining, if not I'll steamroll ahead due to timeframe restrictions. I'm working on a belt buckle now but I'm thinking she may need some more detail or something. ie, straps and maybe a sheathed dagger at her right thigh.

The lighting makes it hard to crit her tummy. The rest is looking really good, though. I would suggest some more work on the blue texture on the gauntlets--something to tell what material that is. I don't think a belt buckle is necessary, but some sort of sheath for her swords could be good.

Ok, I'm not bothering with the buckle then, I'll do a dagger instead. The metal of the gauntlets was meant to be some sort of weird magic shadow metal, but without a sign or something saying "the gauntlets are a weird magic shadow metal" I guess they will just look strange. I'll turn them into a more normal looking metal until I actually have them glowing or something...

edit: oh, and I'm keeping the light as is so that I dont go into more detail than I have to for this project. Once finished and included on my show reel, I intend to perfect the modelling so I can re-use the character for later additions.

Cool, I like the tweaks. Really captured the spirit of the drow =) My only crit is I don't know what is going around her legs just above the knee... might need a little more texturing work to make it clear. But the weapons... the veil... just really cool!

I like the concept design, but dont know if itīs yours.

Donīt like: hands at all, black skin.

Environtment lacks of spec lighting.

Except for these crits, thinks its a good work, but could be better.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The hands will be worked on, the drow skin is something I have been thinking about as she looks great with normal human style skin. I dont think the eye is used to seeing human figures with drow skin. Still, that was the intention with the model so I'll go with it.
Skinning is mostly done, she looks cool doing backflips. Having trouble getting reactor cloth sims on her loincloth and face mask though.

Here some quick updates of the environment with spec, and the hip dagger.

btw, anyone know how do you post pics so that they show up on this page and not in links?

It looks nice, but it's too dark to see much detail on the drow in the full picture.

Ooh looking yet again better! fits in very well with the background. Digging around for crits, the only thing I can think of is that the breasts look a little vertically squashed.

Good job!

the texture of the leather armor should be more detailed
maybe a better resolution of the texture or a deeper bump map should do. generally there is a lot of detail in the upper part and less in the lower.

anyway, it is pretty cool, i am a drow fan :)
