View Full Version : Character: Soldier
Padmus 02-18-2004, 09:58 PM As per the title this is a soldier character I made that I would like some critique on. Critiques on everything including composition, modelling, texturing, lighting etc are all welcome.

I fixed your link. You had http:// in there twice.
We'll also need to see a wireframe view of your model.

Okay I added links to a wireframe view and a flatshaded view of just the head

Coming along nicely, but I have a few suggestions.
1. The eyes appear to be directly cut out of the skin, there is not enough moulding of the geometry around the eye lids. I think the profile where eye lashes would go is to thin, they'd probably fall off :)
If you have a digital camera try and take a macro shot of your own eye area and see the shape more.
Also I think the actual eyeballs look a bit flat. When I look closely at mine in the mirror they are slightly shaded further from the pupil where less light can reach. I'd also add a small amount of blood shot though be careful not to overdo it.
The coloured part also needs more of a highlight.
2. Eyebrows. Those bits of fur make a big difference, but I think you have got the geometry around the brow area pretty good.
I do notice that on his right side however the join from the nose bridge to the brow seems to be an almost perfect right angle.
Looks a bit unrealistic.
3. I think the character needs some stuble on his head above the ear. even if he had a shaved head there would be something. Looks a bit like he has been through radiotherapy at the moment.
4. Nostrils should be larger IMO.
5. The dints on the helmet look a bit artificial.
Lighting is quite good, but I think its a bit early to be commenting on composition. WHen he is rendered in a scene it may become relevant.

Remember that eyes are moist and highly reflective. "Crows Feet" around the eyes would help roughen him up a bit. Good start.

Okay I just posted an upadated version with some displacement mapped wrinkles let me know how you think the work I fear the don't look enough like wrinkles.

He actually looks very real in the sense that it appears to be a photo of some kind of woodcarving or wax bust. If this is what you were going for you did a great job. If not it's still pretty cool but you might want to use a *little* lower displacement values.
Cheers!
