View Full Version : Character 3D: Post-apocalyptic Hunter
Banshee 02-18-2004, 08:30 AM Hi!
This is my latest model, I hope you like it.
It was made in Max5.1, modeling-time appr. 10 evenings.
Please donīt ask anything about the polycount, itīs quite crazy...
For the model itself no Textures were used, all materials and surfaces are 100% procedural, which was actually the main challenge.
Iīve added one Portrait-View (Close-up), one Shot with the whole Robot and a shaded wireframe, partially low-poly.
I could even tell you the story about this character (yes, there is a whole story that came to my mind before I built it) but Iīm not sure if anyoneīs interested in it. ;)
I appreciate you c&cīs, as always!
Thank you for visiting this thread!

Cool stuff!
I think the mask seems a little strange with that reflection!
Also the legs they seem to me a bit small for the hole body, but maby is the pose that giving me that deception!
A really good work thoufg with much detail!
Great work dude!

Thanks for your comments!
Maybe itīs really the pose that makes the legs look too small, but I have actually measured them with an anatomy-book in front of me on my desk :)
So I should maybe post a front-view in a neutral pose, then it becomes clear that the proportions are ok. The Body, especially the shoulders are really large, maybe that leads to this impression as well.
Anyway: Thanks for pointing this out!
Very good char/image!
Few crits thou:
I don't really notice what's that wrong about the legs, but the feet r definitely small. It could never sustain its gravity center where it is needed with such small support.
The materials look awesome, and being all proc, man congrats! Excellent job u pulled!
The light also looks good.
Conceptually speaking, there r mainly three things wich i think don't fit that well in the robot-hunter thing:
The strap with bullets over the chest... first, lookin at that gun, i don't think he needs any ammo like that at all. second, if he'd need some bullets, he's be in bad trouble with such few ammo.
The strap on the face... well that's being too picky, but i think it's kinda unneccessary, the front could simply be attached to the rest, pinned, with screws, whatever.
The japanese katanas... well, it's a matter of opinion, rather controversial, but i don't think they fit very well in your character. Maibe try a more tech sword?
Anyways, great job! Congrats!

@Q_B:
Thank you for your comments and your critics!
Youīre absolutely right - the feet are too small. I donīt know why I did not see this before, but Iīll definitely change it. A little bit of vertex-tweaking should do it.
Iīll also rework the chest - I believe itīs responsible for the "stiff" look and needs to be rounder on the sides.
But let me explain the bullet-strap: These bullets are actually meant for the big gun in his left hand, but only in emergency cases. What you canīt see on this picture is the backpack on his back which holds his ammo and other stuff. Heīs also got a little hand-gun on his left side of his hip, whcih is also hidden in this perspektive.
The point with the katanas: I was thinking a lot about how to equip him and thought of a post-apocalyptic character which basically has to use historical weapons as well because the ammo-resources are limited. That was just one thought and I personally like the idea of the katanas. I kept them very simple as well, because an expensive looking master-katana would have certainly been unsuitable.
The mask-strap is there to emphasise the point that itīs a mask and not some kind of weird looking nose or whatever ;) I wanted to give him a more human-looking touch by this as well.
ANYWAY: I see, I have to change some major things here before I can regard this model as finished. As soon as itīs done Iīll post it again or update this thread.
Thanks!!
