Wicked job man,
I espesially like the facial setup... looks soo damn easy and fast to use. Good Job.
My only beef is that the model itself could use a bit of work.. but thats not what you're aiming for so no worries, it's all good.
Later bud

Hi there,
I really like the set up you have here!
Your technical programming abilities reflet that of a professional Technical Director. I'm surprised that you are searching for work (first of all) and are entry level! Wow!
Do you have professional training? .. of 3d?:bounce:
The one area I would improve is the modelling of the character. He kind of looks 'stressed out' like he hasn't slept for 3 days.
Just some thoughts*
:bounce:
p.s. Who is that Mike guy.. is he from Calgary as well?

thanks for the replies fellas,
i agree the model could be a wee bit better, im working on some new facial setup techniques now, and i would like to test them out on a new head model. so maybe that bald guy will be gone soon!
mexus: he looks stressed because he NEEDS a job asap! lol
thanks for the comments fellas, keep them comming folks!

Hi Ben!
You may remember me from such films as "Let's go to Tim Horton’s, NOW", "Why the hell aren’t my particles rendering" and "MUHHH!”
Today, I'm here to tell you about the wonderful world of 3D, and how it can very well change the course, of HUMAN HISTORY.
But FIRST, let me just comment on your demo reel, by saying it is the most decrepit, immoral, ignoble display of intellectual fallacy I've ever seen*. Aside from that I think its great, and you should divulge all your Mayan secrets into my brain.
Eating a cupcake,
-Doom
* Technically fantastic reel showcasing your multitude of character setup talents, Mel scripting, and so forth. It needs more dragons though. And maybe some cupcakes.

known as 'doom', this main character is filled with unnecessary evil and post-rendered potential of being able to leap tall buildings even though he has been critisized for having arthritis.
Aside from that.. Ben...
YOUR WORK IS GREAT! Is your site located at www.benhindle.com?

my mom was a character rigger. back in the 1880's.
she is the one that invented maya actually.
and so far as i can tell she taught you everything you know.
cuz like, she is teh best character rigger ever.
so that would make you second best.
since, i know you almost as well as i know my mom, i know that your real power shines in your scripting skills which don't come out really strong in your reel, cuz it is really hard for them to do so. So my only constructive comment is to some how devise a way to show off your elegant grasp of MEL in your demo reel.
What you are showing so far is very stellar tho.
keep it up.

realy amazing rigs, expecialy the facial setup, so simple
do you use bones or morphs?
as for a demo real, there are whole 3 or 4 seconds of white in the begining that should be removed
and then the guy is just awful, I realy think you should either redo him or get a new model from someone and rig it, maybe just create a good looking body for that lizard face you used, liked that one :D

thanks for the feedback Hexodan, that really helps, i agree about the bald guy. im working on a different character now, so i can totally remove the athlete character from my reel .
i just made an AVI out of the same file that goes on the video tape i send out, so i guess ill have to make this one a little more "web ready"
thanks all!

Hey
I downloaded your demo and was completely blown away. Its is so nice to see that rigging facial animation especially still has room for the creative mind to flip things on there ends. Looks like a real intuitive animatable rig set up
Great Job!!!!!

Ben,
Just DL'd your reel and I am impressed as well. I too am more of a tech in this 3D stuff and have a hard time worrying about modeling something just to show off the rigging. It seems that many people either hate or love rigging. I have a year left at my school and I'm an older student who has some software programming and try to capitalize this with some of the more technical stuff since it seems many younger students don't have the patience or the proper mind set. Just one observation. I've had a very hard time finding reels that just show rigging and I was glad that I came across yours. I've been trying to come up with Ideas on how to create one ( do what you did, or show a story). Hard decision.
A few suggestions on yours if I may.
Yes, the white in the begginning is too long.
Leave the whole guy out in the begginning showing all the muscle definition and focus on a body part.
Use your new guy and some new facial rig that you said you were coming up with and do a short 30 sec lip sync and show the rig after that. About 20-30 sec. Do the character set up script. Very cool. Maybe show some of the script and make sure if you do that it's neat and commented heavily. Last, show the setup of the new character with the rig. This will bring the reel time down a bit but will make it stronger. I would not worry too much on the models. That's another dept problem.
Last thing, sorry for the long one here. Get the book from New Riders, Maya Characters and Controls? Name? UM? Great book that has a very complex rig.Heavy math and expressions.
Good luck. Looking good.
