Since the Gnomon guys use Maya as their app of choice, do any of you know what kind of video cards they use? When watching their DVD's, Maya is smokin fast.

Just curious as to what they might use, might lend some insight on to the types of cards that really work well with Maya.

Heya.

Well, it depends on the DVD.. but the cards we have used are:

Wildcat 5110
Quadro 980XGL
QuadroFX2000

We just got a couple new machines with QuadroFX3000 cards and they work well too...

Wow, those are expensive :p.. well for me (an 18yr old VFX student) they are hehe... some day!

These must be a lot better than my Radeon 9800, but i'm happy with it for now :D

If you're a poor student a GeForce FX works fine. It does not support all Maya features (according to Alias), but it's smokin' fast!

It has some Hardware Overlay issues. Check Alias website (http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_50_win.html) for more info.

Wow! Didn't expect a response from the Gnomon guys - awesome

I currently use a Quadro 750XGL, and it's hardware rendering is nowhere near the speed of Alex's demonstration on the Dynamics DVD's.

Alpha channels on the image planes also slow things down a bit.

Just a lot of little things that seem to run sluggish, like opening up menus, etc...

Also, I am using the certified drivers for use with Maya. Thanks everyone for your replies!
