Hi,

I am looking at doing some timing comparisons between renderers, in particular Brazil and Vray. I was wondering if anyone could explain in detail what slows down Brazil and Vray.
Is it motion blur, area lights, depth of field, raytracing reflections, refractions, shadows etc?

I need to create some scenes that hi-lite each packages weaknesses in terms of render speed.
If you also have some example scenes, with images and timings that you could post, this would be very helpful. I have a scene that I can give you if you are willing to partake in this speed comparison.

If you are a serious user of either of these packages I would be very interested in your experiences.

I also asked myself the same question. I found out that vray enormously slows down when there is some atmosphere like dreamscape included in the scene. For simple renderings, vray is sometimes even faster than scanline. When I use caustics and refraction, I try to use brazil, because brazil is quite fast.

So you see, you have to adopt the renderer to the elements in your scene. Vray and brazil are very good renderers and I use them as much as possible.

Hi, at my work we use vray and i've seen that when rendering with vray you'd want to avoid things like refraction and opacity maps. The results are quite allright but its very slow when using these features. Animation doesn't always work out fine either.

For personal projects I often use brazil because of the good gi and flawless animations. Refractions are pretty fast too.

Can't do a side by side comparison, but from what I was told, Vray is much faster at some of the GI stuff, but that Brazil has the ability to do effects like DOF, and SSS much faster.
