CGTalk - Lens Effect Glow

i'm trying to make lens effect glow for my omni light positioned as the sun. the scene is an animation that animates the camera going behind a lot of pillar objects. the sun(glow) is supposed to show up between every two pillars. the problem here is that even though the glow seems to turn out ok in the open spaces, it doesnt show up at all when the sun goes behind the pillars. i've tried turning on and off the glow behind button but it doesnt make a difference. i'm using the lens effect preset for sun in max 4. plz can somebody help me out.

Play around with the occlusion values on the prefs tab of the lens effects flare filter. 100 is hidden, 0 is unhidden. Something like 20 for the glow and star, 80 for the ray and 50 for the streak works nicely.
