Hello All,

It's been a while but I thought I would pop in and say hi.
Also I wanted a critique on my space truck windsheild. I have been practicing a lot of techniques ala dvgarage. (thank you Alex Lindsay!!!) anyhow. tell me what you think of this:

quicktime required.

Very, very nice. I espicially like the attention to detail with the refraction warping more at the edges of the windshield. When do we get to see more? :)

thanks for the comments pal. We get to see more when they invent the cure to sleep.

Wow! Incredible refraction and reflection. I can only imagine the amount of time it took to get this correct..... What app and renderer did you use to put it together?

I used maya to create all of the render passes. It breaks down like this:

1 pass of the windsheild (layered shader made up of a glass shader, a dust shader, and a rubber trim shader) this pass has no reflections

1 pass of the otegra's body paint (layered shader made up of car paint, and dust shader)

1 pass of windsheild with spherical reflection map

1 pass of windsheild with tweaked version of the reflection map but black except where there are light sources (isolated in photoshop)

1 pass with simular isolated reflection map on the otegra body.

Then i composite the layers at certain opacities in After Effects.

There is no ray tracing or refractions. the warping of the light reflections comes from the curved shape of the geometry.

My favorite thing is the "sun shade tint" at the top of the glass that blocks the sun when you are driving.

wow, thanks for the detailed break down.

sorry, I post everything I do in quicktime on my site. Most people can view it cross platform, it looks great, and If I post in multiple formats it doubles the disc space I take up on my server. sorry.

Updated the truck glass a bit by adding a crack in the windsheild. What do you think?
