I would like to set joint limits on bones that are FK only in 3dsmax6. Are there any ways of doing this? Script perhaps?
Thanks.

Hi,
well strange but it seems u can only setup joint limits if u have Ik chains to the bone hierarchy.. though it would make sense considering that we may require rotation limits while using IK coz we don't have manual joint rotation control.. as long as we are Ik mode..

u might want to try this . .set an HI IK solution to ur bone hiearchy
turn off 'IK enabled' button and then go hierachies panel and set limitations on individual bones on the hierarchy.. and then making sure ( not necessarily but i find this a neat trick ) use the IK chain to drive ur bone roations , making sure IK for Fk option is turned on in the motion panel..thats it !.. or u may go and do individual bone rotations ..its up to u..

another option is using wire parameters in conjunction with custom attributes to set up sliders..

hope this helped..

Thank you! It helps very much!

Now, if there was only a way to drive the parent bones rotation when the child bone reaches it's limit!:) (like CS biped IK/FK). It is probably not possible.

I tried the wiring solution, but it was way to difficult to position a multi axis limb where I wanted it with four sliders compared to direct manipulation!

Once again, Thank you very much!
