Very nice, I like the proportions, he looks very powerful. From a personal standpoint, I'm not overly fond of the head and face. Nothing technical, just me being picky.
My only suggestion would be to integrate the angel theme a little more than just giving him wings. Maybe some suggestion in his armour decoration, headdress or choice of weapon.
Keep us posted.

Yeah ... you know what? I think he looks a bit thuggish ...
That's probably it ... I remember drawing the thick lips and thinking, "Hmmm ... maybe not." And the low brow ...
I'm trying to think of how to integrate the angel design into the armour ... maybe leather lacings up the wings?
I want to avoid any ornate armour ... I'm going for the whole Road Warrior thing ...
Thanks for the crits Puddlefish ...
I feel a story forming slowly around this guy ...

thats lookin awesome man great piece and would love to see him modeled to a great design so far. My only comment on the sketch right now is that the left arm is a little odd, too long in the upper arm I think, the elbow is at the right height if the arm weren't bent, but seeing as how the arm is bent, I would recommend shortening the arm a tad.
Hey where in Vancouver are you? I'm at VF losing my mind

You got a great concept of character here ! Try to work a lil' bit more on his angel 's flavour 'cause he seems to be just a warrior with two wings ( maybe just with a halo over his head)!
And yes, his left arm is a lil' too long!
But I really like your style!!! Post more please!! :wavey:

Good call guys ...
I was leaning the guy off to one side and lost it between the rough and rough clean ... thanks for being a second set of eyes ...
And yeah ... you can tell that the wings were a last minute addition ...
I'm trying a few things to integrate it more with the costume ...
BTW I'm at VFS again, taking XSI ....
I was a board artist for a little while down at AKA Cartoon, but caught the 3D bug .... Did you say you were at VFS?
Anyway ... thanks for the feedback guys.

Yeah studying Classical Animation as I already have pleanty of 3D experience, heck I taught it for a year, and when I went to check out the 3D program the instructors were al like "sure drawing will help you a little I guess but not much, you can do awesome things without knowing a thing about drawing" (Majik Islama or however you spell it comes to mind, talented I don't know I've only seen one model by him was very good tohugh, but he was so amazed with GI final Gathering Render, and I yawned and was like "Gee I haven't seen a million and one renders like that put some aweomse materials on it and maybe I'd be impressed", but the model was awesome I'll give him that being an animator anyways. So I knew the 3D program was not for me as I didn't care for the instructors, so I took the 2D program. Graduate in October.
I'm probably going to continue teaching Cinema 4D XL after I graduate though, the payis there its fun and lets me continue learning in both 2D and 3D.

I got some pretty good feedback, so I made the changes you guys suggested and revamped my angel soldier dude and stuck him in a platoon ...
I tell ya, I can REALLY feel a story brewing around this ragtag collection of misfit angels ...
Let me know what you think ...

Some good feedback and look now at what you've done. Quality G rated characters for some show. I like them. Color one of the central figures right in this sketch and let the rest be unfinished. And you have a cool concept character design page:) :) :)

Here's an update on the angel_soldiers ...
It's been sitting on my lighttable for weeks now, and between my 3D stuff and designwork ... I've had very little time to clean it up ...
But if you guys spot anything, even with my earlier rough, please say something now before I get any deeper with the clean-up ...
Cheers ... thanks for your responses ... very inspiring ....
