View Full Version : Space ship model request.
derkoi 02-16-2004, 08:10 AM Hi,
I'm a film-maker & i'm in need a someone to model a mothership style space ship, with landing gear for our latest short film "Alien Dawn 2". In the shot, the "mothership" will be landing on earth, with some smaller ships flying around it.
The artist will get their name and/or email/website address on the credits. The film when completed, in a month or so, will be available to download on the internet & will be entered into some film festivals.
If you'd like to download the trailers for the movie then please visit Dangerous Derk Productions (http://www.dangerousderk.com) and click the Alien Dawn 2 link on the main page.
Please note: this is only a model request, not animation or compositing request.
Thanks guys :)

Thanks for the replies.
I have no concepts for the mothership, really it's up to the artist. It doesn't need to be really detailed. More sleek & stylish rather than square & blocky. If it helps, i suppose i could sketch something, although i'm not a very good artist.
The scene the model is needed for is the right at the end of the movie.
Our hero has just killed an alien that he was fighting in the last scene, he climbs up from a stream, muddy, exhausted & bleeding only to see a mothership landing in the field. He screams NOOOO!!!!! & the film cuts to credits...
I have all the footage shot & edited, so if need be i can render that peice to show the background plate etc. if need be. I also have a model of the smaller ships i made for the first Alien Dawn film, if needed i can post them.
I will be animating, rendering & compositing the mothership. It's just the modelling i require. :)
Thanks

If only you could show some concept and the small ships... to see what you need.

It's also not as easy as that - to integrate it well into your scene the modeler should really be able to light it properly, using an appropriate light probe image or even HDRI if you're up to that.
I'd personally make a very reflective model, which really needs extra stuff to light it well. But even a non-reflective model would need a lightprobe to give it a chance of not looking out of place in the final edit.
And as for concept - what scale are you thinking of. ID4, ET, V? What size mothership in genaral? Are you looking for a sleek ms, industrial etc etc. - a lightshow or a dark ship? It would help if you posted a shot of the place you are wanting it to land in too.

OK, here is a picture of the small spaceship i used in the first film. It may be worth noting that the first film will be reedited & the FX redone, so anyone who wants a stab at the little craft are welcome to do so.

I'll put up a still of the background plate. I beleive i did film a relfective ball on the shot i have for the background plate. Although its not HDRI i did shoot it at different exposures...
