View Full Version : "Not Enough Memory" error
Chris 02-16-2004, 01:26 AM I'm rendering out some big map zoom-in animations, & I'm getting a "Not Enough Memory" dialog popping before each frame renders. If I click OK, it renders fine, but I've got x3 shots at 390 frames each - so I can't click OK at the beginning of each frame! Is there some way I can disable the message? The scene has x2 6000x6000 px texture maps in it, but it needs to be that big as the camera ends up quite close... I've increased my virtual memory to 2gigs, but it still seems to be happening. Any ideas anyone?

if you are using a post effect such as DOF, disable it and use AE/equivalent to create it instead.
If you are still getting the message, a net render may work better, although the clients may give errors and stop if they have the same memory problems.

personally I; (and i'm sure you know most this, but just as a pointer)
1. Let your system manage your virtual memory. Esp' if using XP. It will increase it on a need be basis.
2. Look at your scene, sacrifice some Hyper Nurbs down to a Subdivision 1 where and when you can.
3. Maybe tone down the size of those texture maps if possible.
4. Render settings (as above). Also; Options Ray Depth, Reflection Depth can save you time.
I manage well with my system. But I've ran into Memory problems with 8.5, it seems that the "preparing" of the render is taking slightly longer than previous versions.
Anybody else experienced this?

Hell yes.
R8.5 sucks memory, and it drains it somewhere especially during large renders.

Cheers guys, I've already pared back the texture maps & subdivisions as much as I can (its going from a full view of our whole country up to a fairly close view). I've got a little program sitting in my taskbar that hits the 'OK' for me everytime it pops up, so the problem seems to be resolved! :)

What is that little program? Is it one of those memory saver adaware things?

Naa, its called 'Buzof', if a dialog box pops up, you drag a little target onto the button you want clicked, then if that dialog box ever pops up again - buzof automatically clicks it for you! Pretty neat! :)
