I'm doing this tutorial. (http://sv1.3dbuzz.com/tutorial_stats.php?keyID=120&link=http://users.pandora.be/gds/maya/tutorials.htm&category=Modeling&application=Maya&user_added=) I'm at the eye part and I can't figure out how to work the bump ramp. Unlike the texture, I can't see interactively where the bump ramp is being placed. I would have to render and even then, I get rings on the eye. Is there a way so I can easily do this?

Make a copy of the colour ramp (I asume that's how the colour of the eye is made) and use it as a bump; then at least you're sure that the placement is correct.
Or use the IPR. :)

you can view a bump map (in grayscale) in the viewport by going to the shader's attribute editor, open up the Hardware Texturing tab and select the bump channel.

Great! I can see the positions for color and bump now, but I still don't know where the manipulator for the bump is.

Hmm, not sure what you mean. You could adjust the bump map's UV node.
