Since shag is applied after the underlying image is rendered (it's an overlay in a way), shag would have to be "aware" of brazil, and be able to render this illumination by itself (since brazil has no say in how shag renders it's hair). This isn't happening obviously.. Shag is only aware of regular lights.
The only way i see to get the effect is
1: transforming hair to geometry (incredibly-slow), and
2: faking the GI with regular lights that *only* affect the hair. you should be able to match it up close enough.

Hi there,
I'm not quite sure wether this works with Brazil RS since we use finalRender, but it is possible to render Shag:Hair with GI. Pittily it is neccesary to convert the hair strands to geometry. Further one should deactivate "create GI" for the hair in the Mental Ray object properties, otherwise this will terribly slow down rendering times. Well in finalRender this is almost all u have to do, except some performance tweaking. An average hair style usually takes ca. 2-3 h on my PIII 900.
Does Brazil provide irradiance caching (i.e. reusing a GI solution)? If so, you could replace the hair with a low-poly proxy object, render a GI solution, then convert the hair to geometry, put it back in place and render it using the GI solution you created before.
