View Full Version : Brazil 1.2.21 - Materials Not Supported?
Psotek 02-14-2004, 03:16 AM Hey everyone,
I recently got the Brazil Rendering system, and now I have it up to v 1.2.21.
It runs great but there seems to be a problem in the material editor. Each material is blacked out, except for red text in the center saying NOT SUPPORTED. I tried changing the material from STANDARD to BRAZIL ADVANCED or any of the other material types, and all say NOT SUPPORTED. Anyone know whats wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Bartosz

Splutterfish would probably be a better place to ask:thumbsup:

maybe try changing your material editor renderer (render dialog ---> assign renderer) to the default scanline renderer?

maybe try changing your material editor renderer (render dialog ---> assign renderer) to the default scanline renderer?
Thanks Tips, but if I wanted to use the scanline render wouldnt I be doing that in the first place?

No, not to render your scene, but max has to render the little spheres/boxes in your material editor. Usually this is done via the scanline and works fine, however with brazil it might be a problem. Go into the materaial editor optoins (found at the right hand side of the material editor) and change the renderer.

in max6 they changed how to change the renderer in the material editor, you can't change it through the material editor options anymore, it's done by going into the render scene dialog, assign renderer rollout, unlock the material editor renderer from the production renderer, and assign the default scanline as the material editor renderer. The guys at splutterfish disabled allowing brazil to be the material editor renderer in max6 because it was causing to many problems.

Well...It appears I wasn't the only one.
In max 6 it'll say not supported when you try to see samples in the material editor. In max 5 it just crashes max when you try to open the material editor. I ended up going back to 1.2.18. I'll go post over at Splutterfish.
Come post that your experiencing the same issue.

you can change medit renderer option in your CUI automatically. Open default.ini in max6\default\... in word processor and try change value of "[assign renderer]... lock renderer" to 0 (default=1)

The problem is that discreet changed the way the mat editor renders the samples. Before, it was always defaulted to Scanline as the mat editor's renderer, and now in Max 6 they have decided to lock it to the current renderer. chautruong has the right idea if you want to use Brazil and not have to change the setting every time you assign Brazil. It was never meant to work as the mat editor's renderer, so they put that "Not Supported" thing in there to prevent crashes in Max 6.

Bartosz: So how did you resolve the issue with the no support.

whiteboy:
Go to where you assign the current renderer in the render settings, and uncheck the "Lock" that is used for the current render and the material editor. Change the material editor's renderer to scanline.
