View Full Version : Smoked Glass Shader
TumikSmacker 06-30-2002, 03:26 AM Hey I'm making a chess set and one set I'm going to have as pure glass and the other as smoked glass. Anyone know how I could achieve this?

Think it through. Smoked glass is less transparent and tinted. Should be achievable in less than 10 slider tweaks I would think.

Get as close to your desired result with out the grain in order to establish the basic look and other material properties (reflectivity, specular hilight, etc...). Then add some kind of input to the color channel. Either a texture map or shader nodes that carry the grain. I'm not totally sure what the grain looks like in this case but you may be able to get by on shaders.
BTW, an often overlooked method of producing regular noise (not fractal or brownian), is to make a ramp node with only one color (so that it's no longer a ramp) and then tweak the HSV noise properties to taste.
