is it 3D ? or a painting ?
of course its' 3d :)
done in 3ds max, rendered with scanline.
The background is a photo/painting, but the clouds are particles, though

nice work.....i like the second monster thing.......it's looking good....should be working in maya.......it could be better looking....
shash:buttrock:
in "mountain guard", there's no textures... just some noise + quick dirt :)
i use 3ds max and photoshop (for paining like effects)
for semper fidelis i used quick dirt for almost every part of equipment and cloth, face was drawn in photoshop

perhaps i should stop disliking scanline rendering, seeing this makes me believe you can do alot with lesser tools :)
this is some amazing work!
i have to agree that in the first picture, the whole rusty look to the shoulder pads looks out of place. I mean, everything on that guy seems almost completely clean, then there's those rusty pads... i would say just change the pads back to a cleanER (still keep some scratches, etc to keep it looking good) color. Also, I didn't like the nose ring and stuff... that too looked a bit out of place on a guy who goes to space. Maybe that's just me though.
:)
i love the other picture though. The only 2 things i have to suggest there are really tiny. First, the hair on his upper right leg seems a bit weird. It's like there's a patch of hair just on that spot. Finally, the axe is extremely clean and shiny. Now I'm not saying that it doesn't fit the picture, because it does, but maybe you could try adding some rust and dents in there? I say that because considering the beast that's holding the axe, i would think that this guy does a lot of chopping and/or killing or whatever.. hehe. So because of that, i would expect to see some wear and tear.
Very very nice work though! I enjoyed them.

I think the shoulder pads just need to be moved or made smaller... They don't fit with the character at the moment...
thanks raji, your post was realy helpfull :>
you're very welcome. :)
I just hope i didn't sound too harsh.

i really like the mountain guy, nice model, the lightings is great, the atmosphere is really working. I dont think it needs more work.
I dont really like the color scheme on the first guy.
I love the "feeling" of the second picture, really nice

Light parts of SF's cloth looks like totally white, but they can't be overexposed by existing lights, it kills reallism! Do something with material ambience or use additional texture. Wery cool pic, I really like it!:wavey:

both are realistic enough (and very cool). I also love 3D artists who respect their backgrounds!
:airguitar
wow, pascal blanche is my unequalled Idol, I love his works and that's kinda the way i'm going with mine...
agades, you've got the point, thanks.

How you make the feet bounce light ? in PhotoShop?
you have to put light in the scene, the way so, there're some really bright spots in the render. In photoshop use "select color" tool to select all the white, copy it to the new layer and blur. You can do the same with dark colors to get a little "drawn style" pics.
:)
nice to see some great max work. there seems to be this general 'just use maya' attitude! good job.
crits: mountain guard -
- like that tiny loincloth is gonna hold in battle, let alone standing on top of a mountain! his beasthood's gonna be showin everywhere! spose its one way to deter rivalries.
- the whole toeless look just seems too weird to familarize with. if i were one of these things i'd want my toes spread out a bit so i can more firmly grasp the ground with pride and dominance. but thats just me! to less topical crits, they seem too shinny.
- the hair works pretty well, what plugin did you use? or just how? did you use a similar fur technique as the coat for the grass as well? because to me the grass looks a little too.. painted. perhaps its part of the background image.
-his scales that show on the pecks and belly seem to lower the resolution of the output image.
apart from all those uselessnesses' it looks really nice. :D
hair is some shag hair + a few hairs in photoshop, the grass is
shag fur. It looks painted? That's the way i wanted it to look like :))
