View Full Version : Mistake in 3ds max Driver Setup!
Tidus 06-29-2002, 04:26 PM When I open 3ds max today,
It shows "OpenGL fail initialization failed",
I wanna Driver Setup,
but it shows "An error has occurred and the application will now close. No scene changes have occurred since your last save."
Can u tell me difference between "HEIDI" and "Direct3D"?
Why I can't choose OpenGL again!
(My display card is NVIDIA Geforce4 MX 440)
Thanks.

Are you using any sort of cracked display drivers? Sometimes a reboot will help clear that up.
Heidi is the age old (and slooow) software drivers that MAX uses.
DX is what they're trying to get everyone to move to for display.
OGL is what I and many other still use because it's still the fastest. (for me at least)
If you can't get MAX to even open up because of the error you can either delete the 3dsmax.ini file (which will kill all your prefs) or edit the ini and clear out the line that tells which display driver to use. I think that works, and it keeps your prefs intact. (always back up the ini before editing though)
There used to be a -k command switch to add to the exe line which would bring up the display window so you could select between heidi, or OGL, etc... Not sure if that still works.

I setup win2000 service pack 2 and reboot pc,
all the problem are solved.
I can use OGL again.
Thanks.

3dsmax.exe -h
That's the command line switch to set up the display driver at Max startup. You were close, Taoism:)
