Hello all, this is my first vehicle and an exercise in surface tools. I really need some good tips on modeling. I am specifly looking for tips on how to handle the creases in the car to make them look less sharp. the model seems to be coming along well but there is still alot of refining to do.

Thus far this is looking really nice. I saw one other post on another forum board where some guy did a blue Audi. Looked amazing, he had it set in a really urban enviorment. Im not sure if you have seen it. Anyway this looks really nice, cant wait for the finished render! Kudos!

Ok, changed up the lighting a bit, added an HDRI image in the skylight and the environment. also changed the glass material. I an going in and refining all the parts of the model that are a little off so I can start the fun little detail pieces.

Looks good, but the new glass material is not as good.

Where is the rest of the car....slacker!

K the rest of the car is coming soon, this is a low quality render, so the glass will look good on the final

Nice work so far Dan. As far as I can tell, it seems very accurate. I know its not finished yet, but one thing you might want to keep in mind is to make sure that the "gaps" in between the panels of the car are a consistent width and a clean line.

Keep 'em comin'

Looks pretty good so far. You may want to think about adding some wheels or something. It doesn't look very realistic. JK ;)
I agree with Nate. Watch those lines. Nice car paint Mat.

Ok Dan, my first time in this section of the forum so bear with me, focused crit:

Your seams are to sharp, to give them the look you are looking for, you should add some depth to them. You may have to do some chamfering when you do, otherwise you could have some softness and pulling. Right now it looks as though there is no depth to the seams.
Your wheel arches are a little irregular, best thing to do IMO is to creat an arc and use it in the side viewport as a guide to adjust the curveature of your model.
The rear bumper looks a little flat in 1 of the renders, may want to check the reference.
The front section where it meets the hood has 2 dips, it should echo the line of the hood precisely, an easy fix.
All minor adjustments, but they should greatly improve what you already have!

Thanks for the great crit.
Great idea on chamfering the seams I will absolutely try this. The wheel wells do need a bit of work, this will be an easy fix. Also the hood problem with the two gaps was a result of welding the verticies when I mirrored and I was about to get around to that. Will have an update soon. The flatness of the back bumper has been fixed since the last render. thanks again.

Some progress, still trying to get a good looking car paint shader , also need to work on a good chrome shader. still need to do windshield wipers tail pipes, and some texturing. I was thinking about putting the final in this environment.

btw, switched from brazil to mental ray.

I dont think i should have chamfered the edges, I will know for my next mechanical model.
