Hi all,

I wanted to show you my latest non commercial 3D image made you know, in spare time ....
The main inspiration was my last summer holiday ie beautiful Corfu island :)

All crits/comments are welcome .
Cheers ;)

looks nice, but i would check the ground.it looks a little washed out.
use a bump map or better vray's nice displacement!

I like the colour of the piece and wall/window area but would look at dirtying up the floor where it meets the wall. Also try and work on the leaves as they look a little odd. Otherwise nice image!

right, and check out the shaddow of the vase. looks strange. the leaves are a little unordinary too.

the wall looks great!

I think the problem with this scene is in the shadows... They're a little too hard. To me, it seems as though there's a single spot light in the scene and the shadows are tempered by a global light, or something. This would probably work better with some GI, or some bounce lights, and possibly increasing the radius of the spot light... I don't know if that's possible in MAX, but I know you can do it in Maya.

Think of it this way... The closer together two objects are, the darker the shadow should be. So, around the bottom of the vase, the ground AND the vase both should be darker. As the parts of the vase casting the shadow go up (i.e. farther from the ground) the shadow should get fuzzier and lighter. The same goes for the leaves and branches on the tree casting shadows on the wall.

The overall effect of the current lighting is giving the scece that "real-time open_gl shadow" effect. which doesn't do the rest of the modeling and texture work justice.

The wall, and the area above the door especially, look great. The leaves, the chair, and the vase could use some work.

I really like the area above the door and the wall/window behind the tree. I think that the steps/sides at the doorway are a little too saturated and that the vase seems a little too top-heavy. The ground is a bit to smooth for my tastes and the leaves look like they are floating above the surface a little. But I really like the chair and the doors.

The colors look a little odd to me, very painterly. Cool, but strikes me as non-photoreal, if that's what you're going for.
The tree looks a little odd, the trunk geometry in particular. The bottom of the balcony above the door looks untextured, and really stands out if you're looking at it.
Dig the wall, window, and door, but it doesn't look like it all fits together (the green mold around the lining of the wall + floor = ick). The shadows also are a bit too CG-ish for my tastes.
But great job, really, looks excellent. The parts that you did well, you did really well. :)

Phenomenal!

Everything from the edge of the wall up looks fantastic.

The vase and chair are really making the image LOOK like 3D image. It has a painterly feel to it, but could easily be photorealistic if done right. The vase and chair though stop it all from happening.

Fantastic.

It looks surreal and I hope that's the look you're going for, coz this subject looks better in that style.

I second what a lot of other ppl have said. the wall, door, tree minus the leaves, window are like totally super great

the hard shadows from the vase and the chair diminish the image. the leaves look like they are floating, and the leaves look to flat (add some bend to your instanced geomtry).
one more day of work on it would make it photorealistic for sure.

very nice. although not completely realistic and some glitches, the overall picture is very nice.

congrats

Great work, it's just that I think it needs a more atmospheric look. Try changing the lighting or give the lights a color.

I like it, it almost looks like a movie set.

That vase would be VERY easy to tip over:)

I would replace the vase withh some smaller potted plants against the base of the wall, and move the chair into frame, it looks strange cut-off like that. Maybe add a second chair and a small table?

hey, nice work you got there, but i have a few remarks. To me it doesn't look like the vase, chair and tree are part of the image, it seems like they were added later on. maybe it has something to do with the shadows, i cant pinpoint it.

The leaves seem too uniformly placed.

Other than that , I agree with the first comment that the ground may use a bit more bumpmaps.

Superb texturing! Keep up the good work!

Thanks go to the mods for plugging all these nice images to front page.

looks great!
...except the shadows. They look like simple depth map shadows - there are now contact shadows and no attenuation. they are also too washed out for a lighting situation like this.
Still looks great though...

well let me think here on how to put this in a non-upsetting way..

it's a interesting idea, but I have several problems with it.

1. composition wise it is lacking interest.. it needs more objects to fill in the overall image instead of looking at a flat wall. The vase is probably the focal point, which leads me to the next comment.

2. the vase as stated before, looks strange and top heavy which sticks out

3. the lighting isn't very good, shadows are odd and some of the objects either look to flat or pop out of the render. Things dont' seem to be sitting in the scene, almost floating.

4. Texturing is nice in some areas but definitely some sort of either diplacement or bump map is needed to ruff it up a little bit. Not sure about the leaves or the tree texture.

Again I think your biggest problem is the lighting.. it seems its just one bright directional light casting a light shadow which needs to be so much darker.

Do not take this the wrong way, but I dont' think it should have made the frontpage just yet, maybe after you make some adjustments it will be amazying..

Good luck

Thank you all for the replies, this community rocks
And off course big thank to mods for putting my image on the first page :)

Well guys your comments are excellent, and I 'll try to improve the image. Actually , there are five lights in the scene, one shadow casting (used raytraced shadow) - I know that lighting has to be better .....
Also for the leaves, dont have idea at the moment how to make it more "realistic", but I got your point.
The vase is, you are right, somehow strange, as I can see many of you would replace it with some other object , hmh...

Anyway , thanx again for the comments and crits

I certainly like the overall look/detail level you achieve, but as was mentioned before, i think some of the materials need to be cleaned up a little. The major thing that struck me, is all the leaves seem to be facing the viewer. It looks a bit unnatural and fake. try placing them a little more random and turning them on side. Otherwise... keep up the great work!

Hi there,

nice looking image although I can't help but feel that you could have picked a better camera angle. I reckon that its too close to everything at the moment and everything is packed into that tiny frame; door left, tree right..

The vase looks like the base is a tad too small and unbalanced. It looks like it should be closer to the wall than it currently is. I agree with what's been said about the leaves. Too uniform.

That said, good work on getting plugged.

:D

nice image, you´ve got some nice details on that door and on the others textures...

but i think the way that the ground and the wall touch is a bit strange.

anyway nice environement.

It's been said before but the leaves don't look quite right, all too similar.

Other then that, really cool image, from the plug I thought we might have another image form Juan Siquier (http://www.juansiquier.com) to view, happily surprised.

nice stuff
just 2 crits

the shadow somehow look too dense on the vase and the tree shadow looks wired

also the leafos on the bottom may be a bit improoved , too unsharp and seem to be floating :)
nice texture work though ;)

It's a good start, but everything needs some work. The textures are a bit rough. The leaves and the chair seems imposed and overly blurry. The composition is a little bit on the boring side. The shadows are harsh. I dig the gutsy colors however, but I think a more established lighting will pull these seemingly imposed objects into a complete scene:lightbulb
