tsmalldon 01-24-2002, 12:54 PM Hi Guys, Anyone know how to animate tank treads so they look like there moving?? i could do it with a texture i geuss but id rather have the actual gemoetry moving,
Any one know how to accomplish this?

if you find a way please let me know too , i modelled a tank a couple of days ago but i cant figure out how to animate the tracks :(

I need to know how to. There is a plugin from Highend3d.com go under mel scripts and search for create chain 1.0. I got it to work, but i always ge this unwanted rotation on the x axis. If any one can figure it out please let me know. I hope this helps.

can you use your own geometry with that script , from what i remember that script uses geometry created by itself

You can delete the geometry that the scipt makes and parrent each one of you links to the bone that it creates, just estamate how many tank links that you are going to need, and put that in the option, instead of automaticly, I got treds to work fine after working at it for a few hours last night,

well, I'm not that good in maya, but
perhaps you can make a spline and
let the tracks follow it. :confused:

For easy of animation, I'd rig up a quick IK setup thats driven by the X or Z translation. This way whenever you choose the tank and move it, the treads are driven automatically.
