Anyone here used Softimage:Behavior at all?
Is it any good?
How does it compare to MASSIVE?

Just wanted to know ...

try the XSI list on Softimage.com, http://www.softimage.com/Community/Xsi/Discuss/
there are a few users and some that have setup their own ways to achieve crowds on known flicks and series.
If interested in integration of Noodle with XSI the professionals there could provide good insight

Well, as I understand it, Behaviour is a lot more than crowds. Itīs more like a complete logic machine with options to render animations for XSI...you could define behavioral nodes for the functional components of an airplane and let it fly or create systems for the average citizen and do your own "Sim City"...

Well, yes behavior is obviously more than crowds, that information is available on softimage.com

Behaviour has come a long way since I evaluated and purchased a few seats of motion factory which is what its based on since avid acquired it.
Since there's no one here I'm aware of with extensive and actual use of Behaviour, but there are users on the XSI list who have evaluated and *used* both Massive and Behaviour, it makes sense to direct the poster, who appears to be actually writing their own crowd simulator, to a discussion list of people that have actually used it vs this.

this isnt my area or anything. but i spotted this in the Education>Tutorials section of www.softimage.com:

Siggraph 2003 Seminar
Behavioral Simulation with SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR

"These seminar notes cover different aspects of creating behavioral simulations using the SOFTIMAGE|Behavior application, from a basic overview of the Behavior toolkit and framework to the hierarchical finite state machine system, the activity motion layering framework, and the Piccolo scripting environment. Finally, the pipeline between Behavior and XSI is demonstrated to show how to create complex crowd and other procedurally-generated motions using the powerful suite of Softimage tools. [Jan 21, 2004]"

I watched the videos and they show off the capabilities of bahaviour nicely. check em out.

At our last user group in Montreal, a game company called Unlikely Games did a really interesting presentation. They are using Behavior as part of their core animation tools for a game in development.

Basically, the entire content is created in XSI, and piped to Behavior. Animation Mixer clip become Behavior skills/events, wich can be used to drive the animation of characters in the game (SIFreak if you read this, correct me if I'm wrong).

So basically Behavior was not used a crowd software in the traditional sense. That was quite impressive.
