Ok, not sure where else to put this. I'm working on a DV project, putting the finishing touches on it in premier. Right now I'm running the video out the FireWire port into my can and out of the cam into a monitor. Is there something that I can use besides my camera to convert the signal? What does every one else use?

Thanks,
Brad

There are a few dv break out boxes out there.
Dazzle Fusion:

Pinnacle Studio Moviebox

Canopus has a whole line of them called the ADVC:

Formac makes one called StudioDV

Sony made the first one a few years ago called the "Sony DVMC-DA1 Media Converter". They stoped making it, but you can still find it on ebay

There are a bunch of others, just search on google for "DV Converter Box"

Thanks Beaker, Actualy I had seen most of these. What I am fishing for is more of the personal recomendations. Does anyone here use one of these boxes? what do you like about it and what do you not like?
I used to have a dazzel Hollywood but those seem to be out of production, Anyone know why? Mine had trouble keeping up with the signal. After about 45 seconds of playback it would start stuttering. maybe that's why.
Anyway If you have something you like let me know...

Thanks eyeryone,
Brad

I've been using a Canopus advc-100 for almost a year and a half now. I've seen several of the others up close and personal since they get used around the company - I would say the advc-100 has the BEST layout of I/O jacks out of all of them. Also, it's image quality is absolutely fantastic. I've seen some where the image qualiy is very sub par.

So if you're looking for recommendations and personal experience, you've got a 5 star thumbs up from me, it has never let me down and it's design is just fantastic.

and it's small. big plus for me since my desk houses 2 displays, an NTSC monitor and my laptop.

So there, if you've got any questions, ask away.

I use this one, and am quite happy with it:

What the pictures don't show is that the front has the input jacks and the back as the same arrangement for output. Two buttons let you switch between 12bit and 16bit sound and between DV input or composit/s-video input.
