Hey, I just found out about the contest, and as I have time to kill and skills that need developing, I'm gonna try. I'm doing blanka from street fighter. Here's the avatar:

Ooh, blanka! Very good choice. I love this character and was actually considering to do him. A few things you might wanna have a look at before going to the texturing stage.
I think the hands are a bit overdone though. I think they should be smaller. The proportions look kinda weird.
You also might wanna work on the pants a little. They dont really look like the tight jeans Blanca uses as an outfit.
And definitaly make the hair bigger and his upper torso more muscular. Same goes for his upper arms.
His calves are a bit blocky. They could do with a more fluid shape.
You also might wanna consider enlarging his jaw to give him a bit more of an animal look.

Thanks for the comments Super...I just made some updates based off of them. I made the hands smaller (they were too large, even for the cartoonish look I was going for), and gave some more definition to his torso and calfs. His arms are as detailed as I'm going to model them I think, the rest will come out in the texturing. The hair I made a lot bigger/longer and I made his head a bit larger. Thanks for the help, let me know if this is better. Now he's weighing in at 2724 polys

Thats definitaly better. He has way more definition now. I would do the pants as well btw. Good going!

If you have any ideas on how to improve the pants, I'm all for it...but I can't really think of a way to improve them modelling wise without wasting polygons...it seems to me at least I can save some poly's by making the pants detailed through the texturing process...but again, I'm still trying to figure it out and if anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears...thanks!

I think they should be tighter, and follow the shape of the legs. And the rest can be done with textures.

Blanka, one of my old favorites...
In your wireframe you have a split running horizontally down the middle of his fingers. You should use that to round his fingertips some. They're very flat looking, and the geometry is already there.
I think his ankles and feet could be substantially more exaggerated and sculpted out as well. Try to get that ridge of where his 'foot knuckles' are (sorry I forgot the anatomical terms).
Agree w/Supervlieg. His pants should be a lot tighter.

only things i'd crit are that the upper body seems a little too human for a genetically modified brazillian monster. blanka's massive back and shoulders (so heavy that the weight seemed to put him in a perpetual crouch) was key to the characters difference. i'd throw him on a massive steroid diet and see what happens. also think that the face could do with a more vicious expression. visible teeth would help here.

Thanks for the comment super, but I think I'm done...I am not going to have another chance to work on this guy by the deadline, so what I have is what I got...I'll keep that in mind if I go back to work on him again though =). This is the final image that I'll be submitting...(sorry about the link, I'll get it to a place where the picture can show tommorow)
