It seems the show's been given a greenlight. Ok some of you guys liked it and some hated it, but what I want to see is large close-up orthographic renders of the New Battlestar Galactica. :bounce: Someone out there has to have access to the CGI model.. come on.. throw us a bone, post some renders. I want to build a real model of it but I need good reference material.

Wow, you mean to tell me that there is no one out there who has the inside dope? Its not like I am asking you to release the mesh, just some renders, I know that they were made to get approval from the powers that be.

This is the closest thing to a confirmation that Scifi has given:
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-sfc.html?2004-02/03/14.00.sfc

SCI FI Channel has officially confirmed to SCI FI Wire that the network picked up the options for the cast of its original miniseries Battlestar Galactica before they expired on Jan. 31. But the pickup did not signal any official decision about the fate of a possible Galactica series, despite rumors on the Internet to the contrary.

SCI FI said that no decision has come from the network on whether a series will be given the green light.

The Battlestar Galactica miniseries, which premiered in December, was one of the channel's highest-rated programs. Galactica, based on the original 1970s TV show, starred Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Jamie Bamber, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer and James Callis.

Thanks for the update, but whether the show is or is not a go is not the point of this thread, the CGI models created for the Mini series is.

if its models your after, maybe you should re Title the thread....granted folks could read your whole original post...

theres already a ton of BSG Models available on the web, many of them very highly detaild...that and I doubt you'll ever find the models from the series just floating around on the web...or find anyone who would post them for you. Maybe we could ask for the Cave Troll Model from LotR...or Agent Smith and Neo Models from the Matrix.... I'm just saying youre prolly better off searching EBAY for a Real, Old School Glue together Model..that'd be good Ref...

just a thought

You are correct the title of this thread may have been misleading, but you also have it wrong, I am not interested in the original series models, which BTW I watched and loved the first time around and yes I bought all of those kits you talked about, still have them too. As for the CGI versions floating around the web, many are not accurate so that's why I built my own in 3d Max. I am interested in the new Galactica CGI models, of which there is very little reference on the web or anywhere, I figured that this site is visited by those same CGI artist that created it for the series. I know most started out as fans like us, so I thought that it would be cool to share their fine work with us. Again all I want is some orthographic views of the Galactica.

I was expecting to really to hate it and was actually surprised it was done fairly well. The only stinker for me was the Starbuck character. Her acting was the weakest link of the lot.

Here's a link that gives more of the last minute details.

Well, I too thoroughly enjoyed the show. It did have that modern 'NYPD Blue' feel to it, but then again the original had stylistic tendencies of its time. The computer graphics were top notch, although the 'in your face' Clone Wars zooming did get a bit much. I did like the fact that we had one of our first psudo-realistic space battles using close to reality inertia issues (when the ships would turn to shoot behind them while still traveling in another direction). Gripping and cant wait for more!

AFAIK, The cgi model of the new battlestar was designed by Enigma studios in Vancouver BC, and was made by a very talented Lightwave artist named Fabio Passaro. He's known as Fabio on most sci-fi forums and I think goes by the nick Darth_Fabio here on cgtalk.

Mind you, I doubt he'll be handing out ortho renders to anyone, as I'm sure is work is under NDA's..

Thanks for giving credit where its do,Fabio does some nice work.As for posting renders I don't see the problem, I mean its not as if its secret, the Mini- series was on like five times. No one is going to try and profit from the renderings. More than anything I just want to see the model, in fact I would love to see a wireframe rendering too.

Yes, I know the term "beating a dead Horse", but I still have hope in my heart that one of you guys would post some renders. They are going to start shooting in about a month, the first few scripts have been written, the FX guys have to be gearing up.:wavey:

Are we talking a movie or a new television series?

Either way they should quit while they are ahead.

I still remember the sheer awfulness of Galatica 1980.

I am talking about the New Battlestar Galactica series that will be on the Sci-Fi Channel this summer or fall, based on the Mini-series that was on Sci-Fi Channel last December.:applause:
