Heh your right ;).
It depends on how large the surface is.
Have bean testing the script on the same surface so haven't notice it.
I will try fixing it.

hehe! the size of object,. i sort of guessed that out:) didnt tryed it though.
.
Hot damn!!!
I've been looking for something like this since God knows when. I just wish that I had this two weeks ago and my life would've been so much easier.
Thanks man. Excellent script!!! :bounce: :buttrock:

Great set of tools. I've used them ever since.....well, today, and they work really well.
I did have to add some simple error-checking routines to make sure that an edge was selected because using two or three of the functions without having an edge selected caused Maya to crash.
Minor issue to an otherwise nifty set toolset. I now have MJ Poly Tools and Goomoo Utilities menus next to one another and I'm in heaven.
Thanks, Mikkel!

Thanks for the tools...I like them alot.
I've been missing the max Meshtools every time I had to model in Maya...not any more :D
Awesome toolset, everything I need is in there. Wait a sec, except for one thing (unless I missed it); i'd like to be able to select an edgeloop and then just slide it back and forth. Right now you have to cut a new loop to slide, then delete the old one. Not a big thing though.
Thanks alot!

I am evaluating Maya PLE, determining whether or not I want to buy Maya and am trying to use this script. I've got it in my Menus, but it just doesn't really work. I'm very familiar with Meshtools in MAX and I was thinking this would do the same thing and nothing is happening. I am getting all kinds of errors at the bottom. Is that because PLE wont run these types of scripts?

I haven't testet it on PLE but after reading the differents between Maya Complete and Maya PLE i think i know why you can't use it on PLE.
I will create a seperate version that i think will works on PLE.
But i don't have PLE installed so i don't know if it's gonna work or not.. But you can be my PLE Tester ;).

MJ Poly Tools 1.3 is out with Select Loop and PLE version..

I hate to say it, but it still isn't working on PLE. When you select 2 verts and hit connect, it just selects more verts and doesn't split the poly. The only thing that kind of works is Edge Connect. It just splits the two edges, but does not connect the new verts... Still getting error messages at the bottom too.
Thanks for taking the time to do this

I had some problems with Connect Vertices 1.3 which is fixed now. Try re download the file.
What error message do you get?

When selecting verts and choosing "Vert Connect", I get:
Error: Error evaluating arguement at position 1 in procedure "ArrayIntersector".
When I select some edges and choose "Edge Loop Split", I get:
Error: No subject matches name.
Nothing else seems to work either.
Thanks,
Victor

thats sands great wiro, never used max, but thats something ive always thought would be great (w/o having to do the deleting as you mentn). Any possobility of it Mike? that'd be grand! - select an edge loop and then be able to slide it along its neighbouring edges w a slide.
it'd also be great if there was someway you could dump the context into a slider mode straight after you've done an op (effectively selecting the slide channel for mmb editing) ..so its like a vertex extrude ...your ready to tweak as soon as youve hit the op.
thanks soo very much again.

I remember also a multiple extrude tool in meshtools as well. Where you'd select the tool, set the angle, distance, and iterations. Then it would extrude based on that. For example set the extude at 45 degrees, one cm, slightly taper, 6 iterations. It would then extrude the face 6 times, rotating 45 degrees each time, at 1 cm, tapering it along the way. Or rotate 45 degrees on X and Y axis and get a spiral. I was quite fond of that tool, came in handy so many times. I remember it was easy to, a couple buttons to define the axis and then just mouse buttons I think. Been a long time since I've used max.
Also face connect, not connect edges of a face. But where select 2 faces(or more) and it would join them with new geometry to cover the distance between. That one is extremely handy.
Sorry if I sound like I'm demanding features or telling you what to put in your tools. Just bouncing ideas/suggestions around. :) Hope you don't take it the wrong way..

if i understand their function correctly, you can do these w/o too much hassel as is.
multiple extrudes: use normal face extrude, using 'repeat last', g, for repeated applicatn of the extrude transformation.
face bridging: select faces to bridge, delete. select edges containing new borders. use bonusGames' Connect Borders. Combine pieces, Merge borders. a little involved but easily scriptable.
cheers.
Cool tool :)
You mentioned that edge slide would be available through Select Loop but I still can't see any way to do it in 1.3
I was also wondering what the difference is between your Select Loop and Maya's own Select Continuous Edges.
Some suggestions for new commands:
how about an extrude along path? Chris Subagio wrote a script in Max to complement the Meshtools. If you draw a spline you can extrude selected faces on your object along it.
Bridge tool; select two or more faces and the command will create the polys between them.
Loop Split 2/3/4...; Like Loop Split but splits into 2, 3, 4, etc lines instead of only 1
That's all I can think of now :)
Wiro
hm, edge slide works fine, if it's that what you want, just use the loop split, than select the slide attribut in the channel box an use the middle mouse to slide the cut
loop split 2/3/4 would be great!!
Yeah, slide works fine when splitting. But I meant a slide within the Loop Select (like I mentioned in my first post in this thread). With Loop Split you create a new loop. I just want to select an existing loop and then slide it.

MJ one more thing you could do is let the user disable the history on all the poly operation, cause I have to always delete history after a few operations. This is pretty easy I believe, just queue weather or not history is on in maya and also apply it to your script.
Just my experience from using the tools. And of course this tool rocks
have to agree with yinako

I don't remember saying that i will add Slide Loop.
I don't know how to make it.
I will maybe make Loop Split 1 / 2 / 3 at some time.
I don't see them as very impotent tools.
But Bridge Faces is an impotent tool.
I have bean thinking of a way to script this but i need to somehow align 2 faces so that the faces are pointing in the same direction and I don't know how to do this.
You can't just disable the history.
Try make a PolySplit with History On. Then turn History Off and make another polySplit. The new poly split node will come anyway and Maya will give this error:
"// Warning: History will be on for the command since a selected item has history. //"
It will only work if the object has no history on it. And the Error message is just gonna slow the tool down alot.

I remember in the older version, 0.5
What I did was replace all the `polySplit` commands with
`polySplit -ch false` and that would never give me history.
I don't know if thats a bad hack, but seem to work for loop split.

hey man. i hope you can help me. i was searching a function for maya that acts like the spin quads tool in lightwave.
i think what it does is spin the shared edge of two neighbour faces.

I agree with Wiro.
An extrude along path option will be awesome if it can be implemented. That and the bridge polygons function :).
With poly power pack , game tools , ,and MJpoly tools i think maya's poly toolset is the best right now.

im been playing with it.. very cool stuff indeed, extrude along path and bridge tools shal rox0rz the box0rz for sure, i think that.. well some one told me that maya 4.5 already haves this.. but.. well.. the convert selection from pols to verts, verts to edgs... etc..
another thing.. i have a question, when extruding i have to always be putting keep faces together on, there is anyway that "lock" it in on for doesnt have to always go there?(maybe i shall not be asking this here.. but.. anyone?) thanks in the advance, and MJ great work again:) this sure helps loots of ppl.

Spin edges wont be a problem to create i think.
Extrude along Curve is in Xumi.
You can use the Polygon > Tool Options > Keep Faces together
to lock it.
I'm busy right now so havn't time to update the script. I think i'll wait till Maya 4.5 is out and see what it has.
