I will take a shot at this. I have never used C4D (So forgive my lack of C4D termology) but I have had somthing that seems similar from Max. If all of the objects are seperate items with it own pivit point it will place each item in the center of the scene. If you group them all togeather to have the same pivit point it should bring the car in as one object in one layer. You can then break the car apart and put them into layers as you like; ie..Tires, Doors, Steering wheel..ect.. So they can have there own Pivit point.
When you import to .fbx file into Layout, the fbx plugin usually askes for a content directory which will save every item directly into the folder you specified. I hope this helped. Good Luck.

Why not just export the car from Cinema as an obj file? In Cinema you just have to go to File>Export>Wavefront. Simple. Modeler can open an obj file directly.

because as an OBJ it doesn't come in properly for some reason... I wish LW had the incredible import/export options cinema has and not only that, it imports LWO perfectly

actually, when I hit tab in LW on the obj file, it now freezes LW... wonderful :D

Sebek, I have never had any problems importing obj into LightWave. You must be doing something wrong.
