There's a bit of history to this model. The first time I made it I did it for the Launch advert for ZBrush 1.23b (I think it was that version). It was made in ZBrush by piecing together bits and bobs of mesh in a static `once only` pose and was rendered using new render capabilities for ZBrush.

I've been asked if the model was available recently and it was only then that I realised that it wasn't. It was created and laid down part-by part in ZBrush I could never actualy give anyone the mesh, so to speak as it didn't exist. Until now. I decided to set down and re-create the model from scratch in Lightwave and ZBrush but end up with a high resolution model that I could render out in Lightwave with materials of my choice.

So, here he is....

Please tell me more about your workflow ZBrush<>LW. I´m not familiar with Z-brush. Do you zsphered the rough form and add details in LW?

Very nice modeling! I liked how you show the piece being lit and surfaced in various ways.

Holy friggin crap! You'll wipe Michelangelo off the stage! ...oh, wait I hear he's dead...

Now I'm supposed to say something like "but, why didn't you do this and that..." but I can't come up with anything.

11 points out of a possible 10. Horribly good. Scary.

damm, that is great. the modeling is top-notch...

i'm interested in the texture - as it has some reflection going on. what material is it supposed to be?? i'd like to see some of the other renders w/the different materials.

can you show a non-smoothed version? thanks in advance.

leigh, yer hotter than macdonald's coffee.

Really good man. The only crit I can think of would be to make the last chain links of each chain broken, because it seems as if he has broken free and well u can't really break free and have the links undamaged. :)

sweet stuff

I don´t agree with DR00L. Maybe the cain that he broke free of has cracked and fallen off and theese 3 parts are the parts that are left. (sry I´m very drunk but I guess you get what I mean)

I'm sure most angelic characters make sure everything is in order before striking the dramatic pose.

Never heard about angelic bad-hair days in the Bible..so..probably same thing going on here with the links. :p

hey..nice posting but a couple things stand out as weird to me...the figures hands feel way too flat and out of proportion and the camera angle of the first set of images feels off...the frame and angle almost makes it feel flat...i'd use a wider lense.

cheers,

Congrats on such a nice recreation.
Wonderful stuff. If I am not mistaken, it was for 1.5 release. The soft shadow rendering...its awesome to see from its conceptual sketches to now.

Very nice model. I think you could work on the cloth folds more, but I'm nitpicking. I saw the orginal on your website, which I think is better.

dude the bugger need more rust or cracks. IT would be nice if you could make one with missing limb(s) just to make it cooler.

All in all, it is one fantabulous mod you have here.

Terrific JOB!!

Would you give us some closer shots around the head and hands areas?

Thanks a lot..

You need to send that mesh to 3D Art to Part, and get a print of that for your desktop.

I think the original model in the link you posted had some cooler details in the cloth and wings. Goood job though.

Wow,

that is incredible.. Really ought to start playing with that demo copy of Zbrush. The design of the piece is what makes it most incredible in my opinion. Angel in that penatic pose. Stunning. My only comments is that the ridges on the bases of the plinth is odd, something to do with LW sub-Ds? And that the knees seem too square (as does the feet); as does the hands (the way the fingers join the palm...)

BIGGER WINGS! :D

Excellent

This is one kickass angel model!!!

The only things that stands out as far as I'm concerned are the flat hands and that the cloth looks too stream lined. I'd love to se more overlapping folds.

Here's a quick mock up of what I mean (done i PS):

***double posted. Sorry!!***

I really love the different lighting setups, btw. A wider angle would be very dramatic and beautiful.

Other than that...well done!:buttrock:

the original one has much more detail.
looks like a playmobil figure compared to a real human. more solid and less dynamic. too clean.

nice model anyway :)

duff hands. I mean really duff, not looking good at all.
I'm surprised only one other person mentioned it. Must be the quality of everything else distracting from it.

This is a very confident model with both hands and feet in the open like that. One of the nicest I've ever seen.

woah, that's awsome, nice to see a Lightwave artist plugged on the frontpage...you don't see this high-wuality work in LW very often :(

Another thing you could do to improve the hands is tweaking the flow of polys inside the hands (wspecially around the thumbs) and curving the fingers more and also more towards eachother.

Here is another mockup of what I mean:

 Good job on this.
I am very curious that how do u "convert" or create the exact same model in Lightwave? Can you tell us a little about your process? Because hi-res Zbrush's mesh is very hard to work with when import to any 3D package.

Thanks

Lovely rework of one of my favourites. I still have an old copy of 3D artist featuring the old model in a Zbrush 1.23b advert. Of course I was already sold by then;)

Agree about the hand, at least something does not look right. Too square IMO not flat. Anyway, another one to right click for me

killer piece. y'know what's funny is that the shader looks completely real but that I really can't tell what kind of material it is :surprised it's not copper. No plain metal.

nevertheless amazing work

Thanks for the comments every one but I need to clear up a point about this model. It is a completly new version of the Angel than the one used for the magazine adverts for ZB. I re-created it in Lightwave in the good old fashioned point-by-point way and a little box modeling for legs and such. I only used ZBrush the re-shape some of the part and especially the cape and I posted it in the Lightwave forum as, to be honest, it is a Lightwave model. There is a lot of talk about the upcoming release of ZBrush 2.0 but this model isn't really about that.

Little Fen: I add tuts to my site all the time, I have a 6 weeks old baby that has slowed me down a bit but it's worth it. I always try to do tut that no-one else has done or for things that I had to learn the hard way myself.

Miyazike: Its a poly model from LW not a ZIF from ZB

Leigh/Proton/Policarpo: always make me proud of my work when you guys comment, thanks.

Mattconway: For the Material I tried to emulate a figure I have here at home that is made of a resin that is supposed to look like a cast metal. To be honest, I spent 2 minutes on the materials as this model is for a project that simply won't need my materials.

Drool: Agreed, I think the links need adjusting myelf. I didn't do it so far as I imagined it being made by 3DArt2Part and I wanted good links into the ground

Policarpo: I agree on all points. I'll look into camera angles.

Easd: The wings need to be like that. THe project it is for wouldn't like the old ones.

Dansgrabage: Go to www.zbrushcentral.com and everything is there in quick links or ZScripts.

Too all who commented on the hands: I agree. I've re-worked them. Thanks for the tips/images and comments on this bit.

Pixel Ranger: you can be my TD/?AD man. Cheers.

Funchsi: It's for a commercial trial but after that who knows.

WolfS: Playmobil was not my intent, however, living human wasn't either.

ZStevie: Where have you been these many months??? What package are you learning?

Igor: Wow. thanks

Feiyeung: I re-made it from scratch with points and boxes. See start of thread.

I'll re-post more when I can as I feel that the model need some attention to folds and hands. I really can't up the polycount so I need to be very careful.

Many thanks all,

Glen
