Okay, the focus of this critique is of the car paint itself. Well, more specifically, not where I went wrong, but how I can correct it from a technical standpoint. I am looking to develop a very realistic auto paint shader for Maya 5 that can achieve a metal flake effect without the use of traditional lights (so that it can be rendrerd with just straight HDRI). Here is what I have so far but it isn't very realistic and I have no idea on how to go about achieving metal flakes in the paint without using a standard Maya light.
The car is a WIP so no crits on the model or the design itself in this thread please, I'm just focused on real metallic car paint at this point.
