Okay, the focus of this critique is of the car paint itself. Well, more specifically, not where I went wrong, but how I can correct it from a technical standpoint. I am looking to develop a very realistic auto paint shader for Maya 5 that can achieve a metal flake effect without the use of traditional lights (so that it can be rendrerd with just straight HDRI). Here is what I have so far but it isn't very realistic and I have no idea on how to go about achieving metal flakes in the paint without using a standard Maya light.

The car is a WIP so no crits on the model or the design itself in this thread please, I'm just focused on real metallic car paint at this point.

Here's the color, non aged version:

Thanks in advance.

i think ur model for what its worth looks perfect..especially for a work in progress it seems that you have gotten the concpet of iniorganic modeling...good job.. id like to se it with the head and tail lights lit..possiple in a scene even liek a show room or highway or somthing like that....
i think the true test would be if you compositied it next to a real image and match the lighting...

Great example. I wish the lighting was a little brighter. It would bring out more details.
