limkinkwan 01-27-2004, 04:56 PM hi all,
I just need some advise or links about "Reptile Texturing"(Expecially Lizard, Frog and Dinasaur), I feel amazing everytime I saw some people can textured very detail and realistic on reptile. I think most of them are using UVmap, I can handle that, but the texture on the body is the only problem I face, I have tried to draw some similiar reptile texture in Photoshop, but the rusult just feel funny + unrealistic, and i cant even find some tutorial on "reptile texture tutorial"so far, now I need for this to texture a frog and lizard for my short animation, Anyone can giV some suggesstion/ advice to me?Thanks a lot !!!:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

The bump/displacement map is usually what makes or breaks a good reptile shader. One key thing with reptiles, the bump sizes and patterns change across the animal.

I love iguanas.
Dr. Julian discusses how to build up procedurals to make a nice bump map.

You can adapt his principles to make good dino or frog skin.
Hope this helps.

ok, recently I have saw some 3D Lizard modeling/texturing, and I just know from there most of the body was use a REAL texture photo, the head/hand /leg was draw in Body Paint, so It giV me some idea, but where can I find Some high resolution "Reptile texture" ? Or should I catch a real lizard and take photo with his body texture?

Trying to use photos for creatures tends to give me many headaches. The lighting is usually the problem, trying to paint out shininess. Also the perspective distortion.
If you still want to try, you might be able to get close to reptiles at a pet store, or a petting zoo.
